About The Position

Reporting to the Assistant Principal of Math and Science. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: The essential functions or duties listed below are intended only as illustration of the various types of work that may be performed. The omission of specific statements of duties does not exclude them from the position if work is similar, related or a logical assignment to the position. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Teaches district-approved curriculum: prepares lesson plans accordingly. Meets and instructs assigned classes in the locations and at the times designated. Creates a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interest of the students. Encourages students to set and maintain standards of classroom behavior. Guides the learning process toward the achievement of curriculum goals and in alignment with the goals, establishes clear objectives for all lessons, units, projects, and the like to communicate these objectives to students. Evaluates student's academic and social growth, keeps appropriate records, and prepares progress reports. Is available to students and parents for education-related purposes outside the instructional day. Any other relative teaching duties as assigned. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: Supervises students and oversees paraprofessionals for instructional purposes.

Requirements

  • A master's degree in the instructional area with 5 years of experience.
  • Valid DESE Massachusetts Teaching License in Biology.
  • LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals. Ability to write reports and correspondence. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of students, parents, teachers, and the general public.
  • MATHEMATICAL SKILLS (if applicable to the assigned area): Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
  • REASONING ABILITY: Must possess the ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form.
  • OTHER SKILLS and ABILITIES: Ability to implement lessons based on division and school objectives and the needs and abilities of students to whom assigned. Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with students, peers and parents; ability to work effectively with all staff at all levels of the school district; skills in oral and written communication is required.
