About The Position

Ducks Unlimited, Inc., the world’s leading wetland and waterfowl conservation organization, is seeking qualified candidates for a Biologist in Kansas. The mission of Ducks Unlimited is to conserve, restore, and manage wetlands and associated habitats for North America’s waterfowl. These habitats also benefit other wildlife and people. This position will work with a team of biologists and engineers to deliver watershed projects in important migration habitat throughout the state of Kansas. The position will report to the Kansas Alliance for Wetlands and Streams leadership, Libby Albers.

Requirements

  • A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in Agriculture, Biology, Ecology, Natural Resource Conservation or Environmental Science is required.
  • Experience with Farm Bill conservation programs and implementation required.
  • Agricultural private landowner outreach and project development experience.
  • Knowledge of state, federal, and local environmental laws and regulations
  • Strong communication skills across diverse audiences including peers, partners, private landowners, and other professionals.
  • Ability to prepare and present technical information on conservation programs to peers and the public.
  • Ability to generate reports and educational materials.
  • provide written and verbal communications with producers and partners to meet their needs in a courteous and cooperative manner
  • possess skill in interpersonal relationships
  • market, organize, and conduct public outreach programs to inform watershed landowners and producers of available programs and funding to address water quality impairments and in-field resource concerns.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office and Mapping/GIS software.
  • Familiarity and the ability to use social media outlets
  • Ability to adapt and learn changing technology systems
  • Knowledge of principles, practices, terminology, and techniques of agricultural science related to water quality, nutrient management, soil health, and soil conservation.
  • Ability to work effectively—both independently and as a member of a team.
  • Self-motivated and strongly driven to make a conservation impact in the Great Plains landscape.

Responsibilities

  • Provide oversight for outreach to watershed stakeholders and residents regarding the Watershed Restoration and Protection Strategy (WRAPS) projects
  • Develop goal-driven outreach campaigns to engage producers and other stakeholders for improving soil health and water quality
  • Achieve annual best Management Practice (BMP) implementation goals as stated in the approved Watershed plan
  • Organize, lead, and manage Stakeholder Leadership Team (SLT) meetings
  • Identify and enhance opportunities to implement and retain best management practices within the the watershed
  • Form strong alliances with local agency staff, stakeholders, community organizations, businesses, and watershed residents.
  • Work closely with the KAWS and DU team members to support their complementary missions
