About The Position

AECOM is seeking a Biologist II to support some of California's most exciting and important projects. We are seeking a motivated individual to join our group of more than 100 environmental professionals across California. Our team is dynamic, energetic, and one where diligent work is rewarded. This hybrid position will join our Natural Resources team based in Sacramento, CA. Candidates should be located in or around the Sacramento area due to project and field work assignment. This position would support a variety of projects and clients in northern and central California, with a focus on field assessments and surveys, construction monitoring, and technical writing. AECOM works with a wide range of clients including many local, regional, and state public agencies or private sector applicants. Representative projects may include water or energy infrastructure projects, flood control infrastructure projects, general or specific plans, and/or parks or recreation facility projects.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in biology, ecology, or a related field.
  • 2 years of relevant environmental consulting experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education in construction monitoring, environmental inspection, habitat assessments, and biological surveys, or related work.
  • Valid U.S. Driver License required (and must be able to safely drive to job sites).
  • Due to the nature of the work, US Citizenship is required.

Nice To Haves

  • 4+ years of relevant biological/natural resources experience.
  • Knowledge of common and special-status northern California wildlife species is highly desired.
  • Experience surveying for special-status species that may occur in the Sacramento region, such as nesting birds, California red-legged frog, California tiger salamander, giant garter snake, northwestern pond turtle, and others.
  • Plant identification skills are desirable but are not required.
  • Wetland delineation skills are desirable but are not required.
  • Experience writing and preparing permit applications and other supporting technical documentation is desirable but are not required.
  • Experience using field data collection tools such as ArcGIS Collector, external GPS receivers, and Trimble units.
  • Positive attitude and is adaptable to changing priorities in a fast-paced work environment.
  • Highly organized with a strong detail-oriented work style.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Surveys for special-status wildlife and nesting birds.
  • Monitoring construction activities for compliance with environmental requirements and/or permits.
  • Preparation of technical reports documenting survey or monitoring results.
  • Preparation of permit applications.
  • Participation as an active and positive member of AECOM’s Environmental Planning & Permitting practice.
  • Occasional travel in Central and Northern California is required.
