As a Tillamook Shellfish Sampler (Biological Science Assistant) with Marine Resources Program (MRP) in Tillamook, Oregon, you will provide assistance with sampling, monitoring, surveys, and research for multiple shellfish fisheries. Duties include: Conduct effort counts and interview recreational shellfish harvesters about their catch; ensure compliance with regulations and report violations Collect data on species composition, length, weight, and condition for multiple species of crab, clams, and other shellfish from both recreational and commercial shellfish fisheries Gather, compile, and enter shellfish fishery and research data into databases; perform error checking and quality assurance Participate in ongoing research activities addressing shellfish populations and their habitats Launch and operate small boats in bays and estuaries to monitor fisheries and conduct research This position requires a Boater Education Certificate obtained through the Oregon State Marine Board within the first thirty days of appointment. For a full review of the TILLAMOOK SHELLFISH SAMPLER position details, duties and working conditions, click here. - OR - As an Astoria Shellfish Sampler and Data Technician (Biological Science Assistant) with Marine Resources Program (MRP) in Astoria, Oregon, you will assist the Shellfish and Phytoplankton Project Leader with generation of fishery information and collection of biological data regarding commercial and recreational shellfish fisheries along the northern Oregon coast (Astoria to Garibaldi). Duties include: Assist on-site Project Leader in conducting a comprehensive program to determine spring and summer recreational and commercial shellfish harvest of razor clams in Oregon Collect razor clams and other shellfish for biological toxin testing and other research monitoring projects Participate in conducting annual razor clam population assessments and other shellfish projects Assist with data analysis and preparation of technical reports including data entry and quality assurance/quality control of said data Answers questions and provides program information to the public in impromptu setting Clean and repair sampling equipment For a full review of the ASTORIA SHELLFISH SAMPLER and DATA TECHNICIAN position details, duties and working conditions, click here.
