About The Position

The Billing Coordinator will perform patient registrations for laboratory testing and ensure all information is correct and accurate for patient billing. Additionally, they will: Enter patient charges for MoPath, and Miscellaneous labs. Handle customer service issues, follow up discrepancies in test orders as needed for laboratory clients (i.e. patients, physicians, physician offices, etc.). Monitor and review billing work queues as assigned. (includes but not limited to obtaining correct dx, following up on ABN issues, dates of service, correct insurance information, etc.) Perform laboratory office functions and administrative support as directed, (may include answering phone calls, faxing reports, performing QA audits for orders, ordering office supplies, department payroll)

Requirements

  • High school diploma
  • 2 years’ experience in patient billing, registration, or similar healthcare office setting
  • Medical terminology, typing and computer skills required.
  • Proficient at Word, Excel and Outlook.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent customer service skills.

Responsibilities

  • Registers patient information for laboratory and pathology testing per physician orders. Pays close attention to detail; ensures all required information for registration is complete and accurate; ie insurance information, dx codes, request information.
  • Answer telephones, routes calls to appropriate departments, faxes reports. Interactions with customers is respectful and courteous.
  • Takes care to account for all specimens received in the laboratory to minimize errors.
  • Registers and receives specimens into the laboratory by requisitions. Pays close attention to detail to ensure accurate specimen identification is maintained
  • Maintains inventory of laboratory office supplies and designated clinical supplies.
  • Resolves entry level laboratory billing issues. ie. Mopath charges, Requisition ABN.
  • Ensures accurate information of clinics and providers that submit lab orders.
  • Registers outpatient lab orders on a needed basis.
