About The Position

Mission: Seton Home works to break the cycle of abuse and poverty by providing a caring home, education, and support services necessary to transform the lives of pregnant and parenting teen mothers and their children. Summary: The Recreation Specialist is accountable for the scheduling, supervision and management of daily recreational activities and monthly field trips for residents. This includes ensuring a safe, clean and well-ordered environment for structured and unstructured activities that enhance quality of life for residents, support pro-social behaviors, and promote acculturation. This position is supervised by the Assistant Program Director.

Requirements

  • Education Minimum bachelor’s degree in the behavioral sciences, human services or social services fields; or High School Diploma or Equivalent and two years of employment experience in the child welfare field planning activities for children and/or adolescents
  • Reliable transportation

  • Valid vehicle insurance
  • Must provide immunization/shot records
  • Submit to a state and federal background check, Child abuse and neglect registry check, and Tuberculosis screening
  • Be physically, mentally, and emotionally capable of performing assigned tasks and have the skills necessary to perform essential duties and responsibilities
  • Able to show proof of immunity to vaccine-preventable diseases transmitted by the respiratory route if working directly with unaccompanied children
  • Varicella: two doses of varicella vaccine (at least 4 weeks apart) OR born in the United States before 1980 with a reported history of chickenpox (verified by an adult present at the time of illness) OR titers indicating varicella immunity OR documentation from healthcare provider verifying previous infection.
  • MMR: two doses of MMR vaccine (at least 4 weeks apart) OR titers indicating immunity to all three diseases
  • DTaP or TDap: Complete primary vaccination series. If primary vaccination series completed in childhood, one TDaP dose in adulthood.
  • Influenza: one dose annually during flu season.
  • Minimum of 1-year employment experience in the child welfare field working with children and/or adolescents in a social service setting
  • Some knowledge of computer software, familiarity with or ability to utilize KaleidaCare and MS Office (i.e. MS Word, Excel, Outlook, and OneDrive)
  • Able to multi-task multiple events
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measures
  • Successful completion and implementation of SAMA
  • Possess sensitivity to the service population's cultural and socio-economic characteristics
  • Ability to work collaboratively with other staff members, service providers and professionals
  • Ability to function independently and in a team setting
  • Bilingual: Fluent in English/Spanish with regards to reading, writing, speaking, and comprehension of the spoken language
  • Travel requirements for the position includes 10% local and 10% overnight.

Responsibilities

  • Design, coordinate and implement age-appropriate activities for the residents, including cultural and spiritual
  • Ensure that each resident receives at least one hour per day of outdoor, unstructured leisure activities and one hour per day of structured activity (outdoor recreation is increased to a total of three hours per day on weekends and holidays)
  • Create a monthly recreation calendar that includes cultural and spiritual activities, and at least one off-campus field trip per month
  • Maintain recreational supplies and equipment inventory
  • Implement the program’s token economy and behavior incentive system “La Tiendita”
  • Implement the program’s vocational activities provided to the residents on a weekly basis.
  • Deliver client services and all daily interactions within the Sanctuary Model framework.
  • Ensure that necessary supplies, equipment, and directions/instructions are available for all unstructured and structured activities
  • Recruit, train and monitor viable program volunteers who have specialized skills or talent to share with residents
  • Work with community organizations, groups and businesses to procure special activities and events for the residents
  • Collaborate in the planning and implementation of campus-wide activities and events
  • Coordinate and schedule at least one off-campus recreational field trip per month
  • Serve as chaperone and ensure 4:1 staff ratio during off-campus activities
  • Report scheduled activities and projected plans to Assistant Program Director on a weekly basis
  • Assist with ratio and supervision of residents as needed during structured recreation activities
  • Create and distribute daily Recreation and Leisure Logs
  • Ensure that Recreation Logs are completed in a timely manner and accurately reflect the recreation activities of each resident
  • Demonstrate professional boundaries and constructive behavior
  • Actively participate in the enhancement and/or improvement of the International Children Program’s living and working environment in cooperation with the Assistant Program Director and Program Director
  • Attend administrative staff meetings, staff retreats, and other team building activities
  • Demonstrate proficiency in knowledge of CPR/First Aid, Emergency Behavior Intervention, Trauma Informed Care, Transportation Safety, and child abuse reporting policies and procedures
  • Demonstrate proficiency in knowledge of TDFPS Minimum Standards and Office of Refugee Resettlement – Division of Unaccompanied Children’s Services National Care Standards
  • Demonstrate knowledge and sensitivity of cultural norms, values and heritage
  • Must complete all required professional development assigned in a timely manner
  • Must be sensitive to the service population’s cultural and socioeconomic characteristics.
  • Adhering to safety training and protocols on a daily basis, and taking precautionary measure to ensure the safety and well-being of self, others.
  • Responsible for protecting the confidentiality of any information or material obtained in the service with the organization to include but not limited to client names and information, services rendered to clients, donors names and gifts, internal and external investigations or results of any investigations, and financial information.
  • Adherence to the Code of Conduct and the Faith and Moral is mandatory.
  • Every employee is required to take a solution-oriented approach in their interactions and undertakings, as well as being a team member that promotes collaboration and commitment to the Mission and Vision of the organization.
  • As a Seton Home employee, attendance and successful completion of a 10-day New Employee Orientation is mandated for the position. The inability to meet this requirement will conclude employment with the Agency.
  • Other duties as assigned by Director, Senior Director or Vice President.
  • At Seton Home’s sole discretion, and with or without notice, Seton Home may require employees to alter their work schedules to fulfill job responsibilities or handle work situations of an emergency nature. Likewise, at Seton Home’s sole discretion, and with written approval of the Department Head of Human Resources and Executive Director, employees may arrange an alternate or flexible work schedule, provided Seton Home needs can be fully met under such an arrangement.
