About The Position

Legal Aid of Western Ohio, Inc. (LAWO), a non-profit law firm, is hiring two Outreach Workers to support the attorneys by conducting outreach to agricultural workers and their families throughout Ohio. Each year more than 30,000 agricultural workers and family members work in Ohio. They work with many hand-harvest crops, including cucumbers, tomatoes, lettuce, onions, and peppers. They also work in packing sheds, grading stations, nurseries, greenhouses, and food processing plants. Agricultural workers sometimes experience legal problems arising from violations of the Fair Labor Standards Act, the Migrant and Seasonal Agricultural Worker Protection Act, and other federal and state protective statutes. Others encounter legal problems with housing, family law, domestic violence, sexual harassment, government benefits, education, immigration, tax, environmental hazards and other issues. JOB RESPONSIBILITIES The primary responsibility of the Outreach Workers is to visit agricultural labor camps and other housing sites throughout Ohio to inform workers about our services and accept applications for legal assistance. This is a full-time, temporary position from mid-May 2026 through mid-August 2026, with a possible extension. The position requires daytime, evening, and occasional weekend hours. The position also requires occasional overnight outreach trips and an overnight training. QUALIFICATIONS Outreach Workers must have a valid driver’s license, be insurable, and have access to an automobile. LAWO generally will have a car available for outreach, but Outreach Workers may occasionally need to use their own vehicles. LAWO will reimburse authorized travel expenses. We are looking for people who are bilingual in English and Spanish, have excellent organizational and writing skills, can relate well with clients and community groups, are computer proficient, and have a strong commitment to equity and justice. LOCATION The Outreach Workers will be located in LAWO’s Findlay or Toledo office. COMPENSATION Pay is $22.50 per hour. EMPLOYMENT STATUS Non-exempt; 35-40 hours per week.
