About The Position

The Bi-lingual Information Services Specialist provides outreach, information and referrals through the GA AIDS & STI InfoLine to individuals throughout the State of Georgia and nationally, in both Spanish and English. This position assists individuals in a client-centered manner, with accurate facts on HIV and Sexually Transmitted Infections. A compassionate and non-judgmental professional is culturally sensitive to the needs and concerns of the caller, who may be in crisis. The specialist creates an atmosphere whereby the caller feels comfortable and empowered to take action to test, receive counseling, medical care and treatment or other social services for himself/herself or a loved one.

Requirements

  • Undergraduate degree in Psychology, Sociology, Social work, Education or other social service-related program
  • Experience with the HIV/STI needs of diverse populations.
  • Experience in counseling, social services delivery, or related field.
  • Minimum two years' experience with impacted populations, in particular the Hispanic community.
  • Considerable knowledge of HIV/STIs and the correct information to dispel myths and misconceptions.
  • Familiarity with social services delivery systems including community-based organizations, which assist consumers with appropriate services for medical, behavioral health, etc., and general social services.
  • Experience and sensitivity working with individuals of varying backgrounds and sexual orientations.
  • Experience working with constituent database and data collection software.
  • Bilingual in Spanish and English required.

Responsibilities

  • Establish rapport with callers/clients by answering questions for callers, walk-ins and on-line inquiries in Spanish and English.
  • To answer inquiries about HIV/STIs and refer consumers to medical, counseling and social services.
  • To assess needs of Spanish and English-speaking consumers referring to AID Atlanta, the Atlanta EMA, and Georgia for Client Services Case Management and care services.
  • Establish partnerships through outreach with agencies and providers, especially in the Hispanic community, to include some local travel within the Hispanic Community.
  • Develop and maintain working relationships with agencies and organizations, and in particular, the Hispanic community partners to advertise the GA AIDS & STI InfoLine throughout the state of Georgia.
  • Assist the Program Manager with securing Health Fairs and Speakers Bureau requests in Spanish and English.
  • Assist the Program Manager by attending Health Fairs and speaking at requested Speakers Bureau engagements as needed.
  • Assist with ongoing research updating the GA AIDS & STI InfoLine's Database of local and state organizations for medical, behavioral health, dental, and other social services.
  • Update research and disseminate information on HIV/STIs for staff, interns, and volunteers.
  • Collect caller, walk-in and email data to enter into the appropriate database.
  • Provide monthly reporting on demographics and analysis of outcomes.
  • Attend and participate in required (by the grant and AID Atlanta), scheduled trainings, webinars, onsite and offsite for ongoing staff development.
  • Other duties as assigned.
