POSITION SUMMARY St. Vincent de Paul of Georgia operates a large client choice food market that serves over 1,000 households per month to our neighbors in need. Under the direction of the Food Market Manager, the Food Market Assistant will work in collaboration with volunteers and staff to support the day-to-day activities of the food market to include distributing food, inventory, stocking of the market, sorting donated food and essential non-food items, unloading deliveries, training and supervision of volunteers. This is a part time position. Applicants must be available Monday – Friday between 8:00 am – 2:00 pm and will work 20 – 25 hours per week.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED) required
  • Six (6) months related customer service and/or retail/grocery experience and/or training;
  • Reliable, self-motivated and shows initiative
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Strong verbal communication skills; ability to converse with diverse populations
  • Ability to support the mission of a Catholic based, non-profit organization

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in a non-profit environment a plus
  • Experience with a pallet jack, hand truck and forklift strongly desired
  • Proficiency in Spanish strongly desired
  • Knowledge of food handling requirements as established by USDA and GNAP preferred
  • Experience with computers including MicroSoft Outlook and Excel

Responsibilities

  • Represents the food market in a courteous and professional manner with donors, volunteers, visitors, clients, and staff.
  • Answers questions and responds to inquiries while maintaining a high level of respect and dignity for clients.
  • Receives and unloads food deliveries, stocks food market shelves and assembles food boxes.
  • Assists with the arrangement of food pick-ups when necessary.
  • Ensures adherence of food handling requirements as established by USDA and GNAP
  • Conducts housekeeping to assure that work areas meet standards for cleanliness and that areas are organized, clean, safe, and clutter free
  • Works in a safe manner and complies with all safety rules and procedures.
  • Maintains clear professional and personal boundaries.
  • Deescalates and resolves client issues and grievances.
  • Attends staff and training meetings as directed.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
