About The Position

Elgin Math & Science Academy is seeking a compelling, committed, and innovative Teacher that will help to establish a positive learning environment that promotes Wow & Wonder in the classroom while modeling and encouraging the habits of scholarship for students self-discipline. The successful candidate in this role will use EL Education’s Core Practices as the classroom’s foundation to ensure remarkable academic achievement, character development, and community involvement for all students. At EMSA, students and teachers will reach their highest potential through active exploratory learning and social responsibility in which: ● Individuals of all backgrounds and abilities are welcome ● Children’s natural curiosity is nurtured ● Students become leaders of their own learning ● Teachers and students hold high standards ● Critical thinking is central to math and science ● Students develop skills to be responsible individuals An EMSA Educator will: ● Operate with the belief that diversity is a fact, inclusion is a behavior, and equity is the outcome ● Model EMSA’s habits of scholarship and build a positive, student centered classroom culture that promotes self discipline and high expectations ● Design and implement engaging, cross curricular instruction that integrates literacy, active pedagogy, and inquiry based learning ● Create collaborative learning environments that thrive on differentiated instruction to support the growth of all learners ● Inspire and empower students through the Wow & Wonder of EL Education ● Develop lesson plans that allow for deep learning through flexible instructional blocks, project based experiences, fieldwork, and authentic student presentations ● Utilize effective assessment and progress monitoring practices to guide instructional decisions and support continuous student growth ● Engage in ongoing professional learning, reflection, and implementation of EL Education’s Core Practices ● Demonstrate strong classroom and time management skills ● Collaborate effectively with colleagues to build relational trust and contribute to a strong professional learning community ● Maintain a strong understanding of curriculum, instruction, assessment, child development, and state standards ● Design and implement engaging literacy instruction and inquiry based mathematics and science learning experiences ● Believe in the capacity of every student to achieve at high levels and make meaningful contributions to the school and community ● Build strong, inclusive partnerships with families and actively engage them as essential partners in student success ● Thrive in a fast paced, innovative school environment that values flexibility, initiative, and teamwork Multilingual Educators Must Be Able To: ● Provide effective bilingual instructional support in Spanish and English to enhance access to grade level curriculum ● Integrate language development within content instruction across subject areas ● Scaffold instruction to meet diverse linguistic and academic needs ● Collaborate with general education teachers through co-planning and co-teaching ● Deliver small group and individualized language supports ● Use student data and assessments to guide instruction ● Implement EL Education practices that promote engagement and high quality work ● Build inclusive classroom environments that honor students’ linguistic and cultural identities ● Communicate effectively with families in both English and Spanish ● Adapt instruction based on students’ language proficiency levels ● Work with small groups in spaces outside the classroom for linguistic support when needed ● Support the screening and assessment of students i.e. WIDA screener, ACCESS, MAP, IAR ● Support school’s diversity frameworks ● Support Multilingual Parent Advisory Crew

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in education or a related field
  • Valid Illinois Professional Educator License (PEL) with Bilingual Endorsement in Spanish
  • Fluency in English and Spanish, spoken and written
  • Knowledge of Illinois Spanish Language Arts Standards
  • Knowledge of WIDA English Language Development Standards
  • Strong instructional and classroom management skills
  • Commitment to equity, inclusion, and student success
  • Strong collaboration and communication skills

Nice To Haves

  • Background in EL Education or project based learning
  • Strong technology skills and experience integrating instructional tools
  • Expertise in working with English Learners across proficiency levels
  • Experience in co planning and co teaching environments
  • Familiarity with WIDA assessments, including Screener and ACCESS
  • Experience working in diverse school communities
