About The Position

Bike New York seeks a Bike Path Training Assistant to assist in facilitating bicycle mechanic training for our Bike Path Training Program for formerly Incarcerated New Yorkers. Through a 3-week training program at our Bike Lab at Industry City, the Bike Path program provides formerly incarcerated and justice-involved New Yorkers with the skills to become professional bicycle mechanics. Upon completion of the program, all graduates are guaranteed an interview with Motivate for available bicycle mechanic positions to maintain the New York City Citi Bike fleets. Our trainees learn how to maintain both a traditional, human-powered bicycle and both models of Citi Bike (non-ebike and ebike). The standard bicycle that trainees learn how to maintain & fix are ultimately theirs to keep.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree (preferred)
  • Knowledge in workforce training & educational programming
  • Strong communications comfort speaking to class of at least 15 people
  • Comfort with public speaking as well as good writing skills
  • Organized, detail-oriented, efficient within a fast-paced environment
  • Knowledge of intermediary- advanced bicycle maintenance
  • Willingness to participate in professional development training including Citi Bike specific maintenance
  • Self motivated
  • Adhering to Bike New York's non-discrimination policies
  • Valid Driver's License

Responsibilities

  • Managing attendance & timesheets for participants
  • Keeping the workspace clean and organized
  • Teaching lessons when necessary
  • Supervising students during work sessions
  • Perform tasks as assigned
