About The Position

The City of Virginia Beach Department of Human Services is seeking to hire a candidate who has crisis experience in acute care/ CSB setting working with adults and youth to include crisis assessment/intervention experience for the part-time Emergency Services Clinician II position for the Behavioral Health Emergency Services/Crisis program.

Responsibilities

  • As part of the Emergency Services Team, answer ES Crisis Call Center Line aiding Virginia Beach citizens and others with mental illness, substance abuse and co-occurring disorders.
  • Assist ES Certified Preadmission Screening Clinicians (CPSCs) with answering ES Crisis Call Center Line, psychiatric inpatient bed searches for Virginia Beach citizens with mental illness, substance abuse and co-occurring disorders in need of voluntary admission, or TDO bed searches for individuals in need of involuntary admission to a private or state psychiatric facility under direction of ES Team Leaders or CPSCs,
  • Partner with VBDHS ES Certified Preadmission Screening Clinicians, law enforcement personnel, and Crisis Intervention Team (CIT) as first step in Sequential Intercept to prevent incarceration of people with serious mental illnesses.
  • Provide appropriate referrals to ES CPSCs for assessment and intervention services that, in every case, utilize the least restrictive means possible to meet the client needs, yet assures safety of client and the community.
  • Provide resources to community care givers regarding persons in crisis,
  • Under direction of ES Team Leaders or CPSCs provide telephone or walk-in assistance of non-emergency behavioral health service requests with referrals to appropriate agency or community providers for ongoing treatment services.
  • Provide training to department staff and community providers as directed by ES Team Leaders and /or ES Supervisor.
  • Under direction of ES MCRT Team Leader assist Mobile Co-Responder Team with follow up care coordination under Marcus Alert.
  • As part of VBDHS Emergency Services Marcus Alert initiative will provide care coordination, referring and linking clients to ongoing services, when needed, following hospitalization or crisis stabilization.
  • Assist with Civil Commitment hearings to represent the Preadmission Screening evaluation in person, via telephone or video as needed.
  • Provide clinical documentation and assure that all filing of clinical information and submission of billing information are done accurately and within the time frame required.
