About The Position

The mission of Ed Snider Youth Hockey & Education is to create opportunity for under-resourced youth of the Greater Philadelphia Region to prosper in life. The intended impact is that participating youth will become Snider student-athletes with age-appropriate social-emotional strengths and skills to succeed and contribute as students, employees, and community members. This Bernie Parent Goaltending Program position was designed to celebrate the life and legacy of Bernie Parent and will reflect his passion by giving young people the opportunity to develop both as goaltenders and individuals. The Coordinator of the Program will oversee and deliver all aspects of Snider’s goaltender training. This will include structured approaches to introducing the position to younger Snider students and supporting goaltenders with ongoing coaching and development to properly develop their skills. The Coordinator will develop a curriculum and framework to support as many as 100 goalies and will be responsible for training coaches to successfully implement this at multiple sites throughout the Philadelphia area. Ideal candidates will provide a comprehensive approach to goaltender training.

Requirements

  • High School diploma (or equivalent) is required; Bachelor’s degree is preferred.
  • Experience with goaltending at a high level of youth, junior, collegiate, and/or professional hockey is required.
  • Coaching experience working with goaltenders is strongly preferred; experience could be from a team, clinic, or individual coaching setting.
  • Prior experience managing staff in a professional setting is preferred.
  • Two or more years of experience working with youth in education or athletic settings.
  • It is important that candidates possess strong critical thinking skills to navigate challenges creatively.
  • Candidates must have strong communication skills with an emphasis on interpersonal communication.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills are also required.
  • Advanced computer literacy and the ability to interpret and learn from data.
  • Excellent time management skills with the ability to multitask and prioritize work.
  • Successful applicants must be able to pass the PA Child Abuse Clearance, PA State Police Criminal Background Check, and FBI Fingerprint Criminal Background Check.

Responsibilities

  • Create and run a goaltending program that offers opportunities to goaltenders of all ages and abilities that both increases the number of goaltenders in Snider and allows them to develop to the highest level possible.
  • Provide direct on ice individual and small group goaltending instruction for Snider goaltenders at designated practices, camps, and clinics.
  • Hire, train, and manage additional part time goaltending coaching resources to ensure appropriate staffing at all rinks.
  • Plan and execute the Bernie Parent Memorial Goalie Camp, which will bring together Philadelphia Flyers alumni, coaches, and those close to Bernie to deliver intensive training and inspiring life experiences.
  • Develop training programs for all Snider coaches to ensure all staff have the tools to develop goaltenders on their teams at the highest level.
  • Track the development of goaltenders across the Snider organization and assist in team placement.
  • Develop and sustain strong relationships with families of all Snider goaltenders to ensure clear communication and awareness of all opportunities that support their children's growth.
  • Oversee goaltending equipment inventory and ensure proper ordering to keep players safely equipped.
  • Design and implement goaltending camps and clinics, including week-long summer camps and in-season evening and weekend sessions.
  • Build and maintain partnerships with local, regional, and national programs that can provide experiences and development for goaltenders in the program.
