Lifebanc, is the federally designated organ, eye and tissue recovery organization that serves 20 counties in Northeast Ohio. Put simply, we facilitate and coordinate organ, eye and tissue donation and transplantation in our community and educate the public on the importance of our mission. Job Summary: The Bereavement Services Clinician position is responsible for facilitating follow-up bereavement services and counseling to support the families of all deceased organ, eye, and tissue donors.

Requirements

  • Degree requirement based on licensure.
  • An L.P.C or L.P.C.C will require a Masters degree for counseling to be practiced.
  • An LSW is required for a Bachelors degree to practice counseling.
  • A minimum of 3 years of clinical experience relevant to grief and loss is required.
  • Certifications and Licenses: LPC or LSW, LPCC or LISW
  • Ability to engage in decision making regarding family need assessments and clinical counseling.
  • Ability to work independently, exercise initiative, discretion, and exercise sound judgment.
  • Must be willing to work flexible hours that may include weekends.
  • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing with donor families, recipients, peers, administration, community, and donor partners.
  • Ability to work in an office and at home.
  • Ability to travel for functions, meetings, and continuing education.
  • Knowledge of and ability to use personal computers and related Microsoft Office software (including PowerPoint, Word, and Excel).
  • Ability to function as a team member in the delivery of effective bereavement services.
  • Ability to maintain confidential information.
  • Current valid driver’s license and automobile insurance.
  • Ability to lift 25 pounds and sit or stand for an extended period of time.

Responsibilities

  • Fields donor family contacts and engages in outreach to donor family members at appropriate intervals to assist and support them during their grief journey.
  • Assesses and documents the needs, responses, coping skills and the support system of bereaved donor families and provides follow-up as indicated.
  • Provides individual grief counseling at Lifebanc.
  • Facilitates bereavement support groups in the Lifebanc service area.
  • Facilitates subject specific grief education seminars.
  • Provides support to maintain the delivery of quality bereavement services.
  • Provides organ outcome letters to all donor families within a 6-week period after donation.
  • Facilitates correspondence to enable local and non-local donor families to communicate with recipients.
  • Verifies, documents, and communicates the required information to ensure the proper exchange of the donor family and recipient correspondences.
  • Obtains recipient updates from donor partners as requested by local and non-local donor families.
  • Verifies documents and relays updates from organ procurement organizations, tissue and eye banks and transplant centers.
  • Facilitates release of information between donor families and recipients.
  • Provides support in the implementation of the annual memorial service, and all other program functions.
  • Assists Manager of department in the research, creation and implementation of new programs and services.
  • Maintains a current knowledge base in all aspects of the bereavement field to ensure a dynamic and progressive Lifebanc Bereavement Program.
  • Reviews relevant professional journals.
  • Performs other job duties as assigned.
