The Benefits Manager is responsible for the design, administration, and compliance of the organization’s employee benefits programs. This role ensures competitive, cost-effective benefits offerings while maintaining regulatory compliance and delivering a positive employee experience. The Benefits Manager partners with HR/Payroll, Finance, and external vendors to support the overall benefits strategy. The Benefits Manager reports to the Human Resources Director.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field (or equivalent experience will be considered).
  • 5+ years of progressive experience in benefits administration.
  • Experience managing vendors and negotiating contracts is preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of employee benefits regulations and compliance requirements.
  • Acquisition experience is preferred.
  • Analytical skills with the ability to interpret data and make strategic recommendations.
  • Excellent project management and organizational skills.
  • Strong communication and presentation skills.
  • Proficiency in HRIS and benefits administration systems.
  • High level of discretion and confidentiality.
  • An individual that understands the value of providing a high level of customer service.

Nice To Haves

  • Acquisition experience is preferred.
  • Experience managing vendors and negotiating contracts is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the administration of all employee benefits programs, including medical, dental, vision, life, disability, 401k, leave programs, life balance, COBRA, HSA, FSA and dependent care.
  • Manage relationships with benefits brokers, carriers, third-party administrators, and other vendors.
  • Lead annual open enrollment planning and execution, including employee communications and system configuration.
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations (e.g., ERISA, ACA, COBRA, HIPAA, FMLA).
  • Monitor benefits costs and analyze utilization data to recommend plan design changes and cost-containment strategies.
  • Manage leave administration and ensure consistent application of policies.
  • Develop and maintain clear benefits communications and educational materials for employees.
  • Serve as subject matter expert and escalation point for complex benefits issues.
  • Maintain accurate benefits data within HRIS and ensure data integrity.
  • Support audits, filings, and required reporting (e.g., Form 5500, ACA reporting, 401k/retirement plan).
  • Evaluate and recommend enhancements to improve employee engagement and retention.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
