About The Position

Curo Pet Care ("Curo") is looking for a experienced, highly motivated Benefits Administrator (Remote) to join our team! This role will own day-to-day benefits administration across a multi-state organization with a large employee population that’s heavily concentrated in California. The ideal candidate has deep, hands-on experience with small group insurance plans, CalChoice, Covered California, and the unique operational nuances of state marketplaces and tiered plan structures. We are a team of successful entrepreneurs and doctors using our own capital to improve the veterinary industry. Curo today is a family of over 70 independent veterinary hospitals, many of which have been significantly renovated since partnership or built from the ground up. They are highly profitable and well-positioned for growth with strong support from the ownership team. This person should be a true benefits expert who understands the complexities of eligibility rules, billing issues, carrier discrepancies, varying plan designs, and the fast-changing regulatory environment in California.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of benefits administration experience, preferably in a high-volume, multi-state organization.
  • Proficiency with Rippling, Gusto, Employee Navigator, or similar HRIS/benefits platforms.
  • Strong data-entry accuracy and auditing capability.
  • Excellent communication, customer service, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to navigate complex benefits scenarios with professionalism and urgency.

Nice To Haves

  • Passionate about employee benefits and regulatory trends.
  • Highly organized with strong attention to detail.
  • Experience coordinating across multiple entities and EINs.
  • Strong relationship-building skills with brokers and carriers.

  • Accurately enter, audit, and maintain employee and benefits data in Rippling, Gusto, and other HR/benefits systems.
  • Ensure accuracy and consistency of employee data and benefit records across all entities and platforms.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve enrollment delays, plan mismatches, reconciliation issues, and retroactivity limitations common within small group plans.
  • Manage the benefits inbox and serve as the first point of contact for employee benefits inquiries.
  • Provide clear, timely guidance to employees regarding enrollments, eligibility, qualifying life events (QLEs), and plan provisions.
  • Process new hire enrollments, QLE changes, terminations of coverage, and annual Open Enrollment across multiple states and carriers.
  • Coordinate with brokers, carriers, and third-party administrators to ensure timely and accurate processing of enrollments, changes, and corrections.
  • Partner with payroll teams to ensure proper and timely benefits deductions.
  • Assist with required annual notices, ACA reporting, compliance tasks, and audit activities.
  • Conduct recurring audits across HRIS, payroll, brokers, and carriers to proactively identify and resolve discrepancies.
  • Serve as a liaison with insurance carriers, brokers, and TPAs to resolve escalated issues quickly and accurately.
  • Support benefits renewals, plan updates, and the organizational transition from small group to large group plans.
