About The Position

The Benefits Intake Specialist is responsible for managing the initial patient referral and benefits verification process. This role serves as a key liaison between patients, healthcare providers, and insurance payers, ensuring coverage requirements are met, documentation is complete, and referrals move forward efficiently.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience in benefits verification, patient intake, reimbursement support, or a related healthcare role
  • Working knowledge of commercial insurance plans, Medicare, and Medicaid
  • Strong attention to detail and excellent organizational skills
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Proficiency with healthcare systems, EMRs, and/or CRM platforms
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating within a cross‑functional team environment

Responsibilities

  • Receive, review, and process patient referrals and intake documentation accurately and timely
  • Verify insurance coverage, eligibility, and benefits with commercial, Medicare, and Medicaid payers
  • Clearly communicate coverage details, financial responsibility, and next steps to patients and providers
  • Collaborate cross‑functionally with reimbursement, clinical, and operations teams to resolve intake‑related issues
  • Ensure accurate and timely data entry within CRM and case management systems
  • Track referral progress, including following up on pending authorizations and missing or incomplete documentation
  • Maintain organized records and ensure compliance with internal and payer requirements
  • Serve as a point of contact for intake‑related questions from internal teams and external partners
