About The Position

Strategies to Empower People is seeking full-time Behavioral & Medical Support Staff (Enhanced DSP) to provide direct in-home and community support for adults with Developmental Disabilities who require significant behavioral and/or medical assistance. This role is specifically for individuals supporting people who are Deaf and/or Hard of Hearing, requiring American Sign Language skills. The Behavioral Support Staff works one-on-one with clients living in their own homes, not group homes or locked facilities. The primary goal is to provide direction and hands-on support for all client needs, ensuring clients actively participate in daily activities such as eating, cleaning, bathing, or toileting, rather than simply being served. A key aspect of the job is to help clients engage with their community, overcoming behavioral challenges to participate in the world outside their homes. Strategies to Empower People is a 100% employee-owned company, operating in multiple California counties since 1994, and is the largest provider of its type in the area. Requirements

  • At least six months of verifiable experience working with people who have regular behavioral challenges.
  • Valid California Driver License.
  • Current auto insurance.
  • Clean & reliable vehicle.
  • Energetic staff who base their success on the success of others.

  • Maintaining a positive attitude.
  • Not being afraid to advocate for the clients.
  • American Sign Language (ASL) skills.

Responsibilities

  • Provide direct in-home and community support for adults with Developmental Disabilities.
  • Work one-on-one with an adult who has an Intellectual and/or Developmental Disability.
  • Support clients with consistent, high behavioral challenges or medical challenges.
  • Provide direction and hands-on support with any and all needs clients have.
  • Ensure clients engage in all parts of their lives, even when assistance is needed for activities like eating, cleaning, bathing, or toileting.
  • Ensure clients engage with their community, getting out of the home and into the world.
