About The Position

The incumbent assigned to this position is responsible for the custody, personal care, safety, security, and well-being of residents ordered by the Court to the custody of the Developmental Disabilities Defendant Program.  The incumbent is responsible for providing TCTP and other training for assigned residents.  The incumbent is responsible for the appropriate implementation of the DDDP Contingency Manual (CM). Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following tasks:

Requirements

  • An associate degree from an accredited college or university with a major in nursing, education, or a social, behavioral, or rehabilitative science and two years of experience involving the application of behavior modification principles; or
  • A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with a major in nursing, education, or social, behavioral, or rehabilitative science.
  • Experience as described above can substitute on a year-for-year basis for the required college education.
  • A valid driver’s license.
  • Knowledge of appropriate protocols used in training and treatment of developmentally disabled persons.
  • Knowledge of teaching methods and interaction methods to effectively train and maintain control of the classroom environment.
  • Ability to observe residents and identify and document changes and/or unusual events which could result in safety and well-being issues.
  • Ability to maintain and update personal, classroom and resident records and charts by hand or electronically.
  • Ability to work in a team environment and establish and maintain effective working relationships with residents and staff.
  • Ability to effectively and timely communicate and interact with residents and staff.
  • Ability to plan, organize and coordinate work assignments.
  • Ability to maintain the required Prevention and Safety Strategy certification.
  • Certification in the agency approved crisis prevention and intervention program at the Advanced level is required unless the incumbent requests reasonable accommodation supported by an annual medical certification.
  • Incumbent is required to submit to pre-employment TB screening and on an annual on-going basis as prescribed by DDDP.
  • Maintain confidentiality of employee and/or resident information.
  • Based on the duties and essential functions of this position, incumbents will be required to spend a minimum of 75% of work time performing duties that involve direct contact with residents in a secure forensic facility.  This position requires lifting, pulling, and squatting.

Responsibilities

  • Provides trial competency or other training using the approved materials and curriculum as trained, including classroom management.
  • Functions as a role model for residents to reinforce the behavioral and social skills required to be successful in integrating into community and/or residential environments.  Implements the CM and documents and communicates relevant facts to ensure any problems or resident needs are addressed.
  • Accurately completes all data requirements for this position, including class attendance and performance information, required time and leave documentation, and other assigned documentation.
  • Provides assistance or resident supervision for other areas to assist DDDP as needed and assigned.  Deploys training, instruction, recreational, and other therapeutic interventions to the residents as assigned and/or required.
  • Completes all required training. Maintain MANDT certification as required.
  • Maintain timesheet, ensuring accuracy, and submit timely in accordance with policy and procedure.
  • Perform other related duties as required.
