About The Position

UPMC Western Behavioral Health at Southside Pittsburgh location is seeking a Behavioral Health Therapist I to support our Acute Partial Hospitalization (PHP) and Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) for adolescents. Our programs serve teens experiencing acute symptoms of depression and anxiety, providing structured, short‑term treatment focused on stabilization and preventing the need for psychiatric hospitalization. In this role, the Behavioral Health Therapist provides direct clinical care using evidence‑based approaches, including Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT). Treatment focuses on building coping skills, supporting emotional regulation, and helping adolescents engage meaningfully in care. Programming includes therapeutic activities such as our Mindfulness Garden and Matt’s Maker Space, which offer creative and calming opportunities that support confidence, self‑expression, and skill development alongside evidence-based therapy. This full‑time position is Monday through Friday, with the expectation of working until 5:30 PM at least one evening per week. Sign-On Bonuses up to $10,000!

Requirements

  • Master's Degree in Psychology, Social Work, Counseling, Education in school counseling, or related field required. (Successfully completed the educational requirements as defined in practicing state's code)
  • Passed the examination required by 49.11. relating to licensure examination. Must sign a license agreement and be actively working to obtain the Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), Licensed Clinical Social Work (LCSW), or Licensed Family Marriage Therapist (LMFT) within 30 months of hire.
  • Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)

  • Act 31 Child Abuse Reporting with renewal

  • Act 73 FBI Clearance

Nice To Haves

  • One year of clinical experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of psychiatric evaluation and assessment process, as well as application of current version of the DSM preferred.
  • Experience in diagnosing and treating behavioral and psychiatric conditions preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Quality Assurance: Participate in quality assurance and performance improvement activities.
  • Documentation: Complete clinical documentation on the same day of service and provide necessary information for service authorization.
  • Case Reviews: Periodically review cases and serious clinical changes with supervisors and clinical personnel.
  • Patient Assessment: Assess changing patient needs and incorporate them into treatment plans.
  • New Patient Assessments: Conduct assessments of new patients under supervision, document clinical decisions, and implement treatment models.
  • Therapy and Education: Provide individual and group therapy, engage families in treatment, and educate patients on recovery.
  • Record Keeping: Document all patient-related activities according to guidelines.
  • Service Coordination: Discuss additional service needs with the clinical team and refer patients to appropriate care levels or community services.
  • Team Meetings: Participate in treatment team meetings to discuss cases, update treatment plans, and monitor progress.
  • Productivity Records: Maintain daily records of clinical productivity.
  • Treatment Planning: Create comprehensive treatment plans addressing a variety of patient needs.
