UnityPoint Health is seeking a compassionate and attentive Behavioral Health Technician to join our behavioral health team. This role is essential in supporting patient care and promoting a safe, therapeutic environment for individuals receiving behavioral health services. The Behavioral Health Technician assists in the delivery of patient care throughout the behavioral health unit. Requirements

  • Must be at least 16 years old if meeting #5 below under license/certification.
  • Successful completion and documentation of one of the following:
  • Graduation from an accredited nursing program and waiting for NCLEX re-examination.
  • Certified Nursing Assistant listed as either Active or Inactive on any state health care worker registry.
  • EMT-B licensure.
  • Medical Assistant.
  • Must be enrolled in Trinity’s PCT on the job training program and successfully complete.
  • Successful completion of first semester of nursing school that includes Nursing Fundamentals.
  • Current CPR certification.
  • Writes, reads, comprehends and speaks fluent English.
  • Multicultural sensitivity.
  • Microsoft Office – basic computer skills.
  • Customer/patient focused.
  • Critical thinking skills using independent judgment in making decisions.
  • Use of usual and customary equipment used to perform essential functions of the position.
  • Work may occasionally require travel to other UPH facilities.

Responsibilities

  • Assists patients with ADL’s according to hospital procedures, reports all abnormal findings and changes in patient condition to Registered Nurse in charge of patient.
  • Completes 15 minute checks to maintain safety of patient and unit.
  • Assists with the check in process including getting initial vital signs and completing admission paperwork.
  • Assists with restocking of rooms and maintain a safe and clean environment.
  • Follows all established infection control policies, and recognizes role in providing safety to the patient.
  • Documents vital signs, weights, activity, intake and outputs, and ADL care given to patient in computer.
  • Assists with the check in process including getting initial vital signs and completing admission paperwork.
