About The Position

The Behavioral Health Technician is responsible for ensuring a safe, supportive, and structured environment for clients receiving mental health and substance use treatment. This role involves monitoring client behavior, providing support in daily activities, assisting in therapeutic programming, and maintaining detailed documentation. The ideal candidate will demonstrate compassion, resilience, and professionalism, even in challenging situations.

Requirements

  • Valid Driver’s License with clean driving record, as determined by Footprints to Recovery’s insurance carrier
  • Minimum of one year of work experience with substance use or mental health populations (required).
  • In-depth knowledge of mental health and substance use disorders, including other therapeutic and behavior modification techniques.
  • Experience facilitating groups effectively.
  • Ability to remain calm under pressure and manage crisis situations efficiently.
  • Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
  • Proven ability to manage stress while maintaining professional boundaries.
  • Must be 21 years of age (requirement in order to drive company vans)
  • Proficient in Windows, basic email, Microsoft Word, timekeeping software, and general computer navigation.
  • Strong ability to write professional correspondence and reports with excellent grammar and spelling.
  • Skilled in reading, analyzing, and interpreting emails, letters, policies, and procedures.
  • Flexible with shift timings.
  • Self-motivated, self-directed, and a team player.
  • High level of patience.
  • Active CPR and First Aid certification (can be provided by Footprints to Recovery).

Responsibilities

  • Conduct facility rounds and walkthroughs every 30 minutes during operating hours to ensure client safety and facility security.
  • Accurately document all tasks, interactions, and incidents, including client intakes, group sessions, and behavioral observations.
  • Handle and safeguard client belongings, ensuring proper storage and return procedures.
  • Lead or assist in therapeutic groups such as life skills, support, and recreational activities.
  • Support clients during crises, intervening promptly and appropriately as needed.
  • Complete the intake process for new clients, including documentation and understanding of consent and release forms.
  • Apply working knowledge of mental health and substance use disorders to provide appropriate care.
  • Communicate daily with clinical staff and other departments via email to maintain consistent updates on client care.
  • Maintain inventory of supplies, ensuring timely restocking and organization of storage areas.
  • Promote and maintain cleanliness in both client and common areas of the facility.
  • Transport clients to local appointments, in accordance with company policies and safety standards.
  • Monitor and guide appropriate computer usage among clients.
  • Collaborate with clinical, medical, and support staff to ensure cohesive and effective treatment planning.
  • Ensure full compliance with federal regulations concerning client privacy and confidentiality (HIPAA).
  • Provide compassionate care that enhances client safety, comfort, and the therapeutic environment.
  • Assist clients with daily living activities and manage behavioral challenges with professionalism and empathy.
  • Participate in interdisciplinary team efforts to implement treatment plans and conduct milieu activities.
  • Utilize Electronic Medical Record (EMR) systems for accurate charting and documentation.
  • Prepare meals for clients in accordance with dietary guidelines and facility protocols.
