What you will do in this role: Observe and maintain a safe environment through regular patient checks, safety monitoring, contraband searches, and one‑on‑one supervision as needed. Perform delegated nursing tasks such as taking vital signs, collecting specimens, documenting care, assisting with group education, and monitoring patients. Promote a positive therapeutic milieu and accompany patients to meals, breaks, off‑unit visits, and appointments. Report medical or psychiatric changes to the RN and assist with admissions, belongings inventory, and vital signs. Document patient property at admission and discharge and conduct unit safety checks each shift. Encourage or assist patients with activities of daily living and facilitate or co‑facilitate psychoeducational and therapeutic groups. Apply crisis intervention and de‑escalation techniques and maintain current knowledge of program policies and procedures. Provide orientation and mentorship to new staff, serve as a preceptor, and train colleagues on group facilitation and therapeutic practices. Serve as an instructor for trainings such as CPI/HWC, CPR, and new‑hire or annual competencies and develop guides for group presentations with appropriate approvals. Participate on hospital committees, lead process improvement projects, and attend continuing education programs for behavioral health technicians. Employ therapeutic communication, perform psychotherapeutic interventions based on care plans, assess patient needs related to chemical dependency, and document plans of care from admission through discharge.
