About The Position

About the department The Resource Center is made up of Nurses, Nurse Technicians and Behavorial Health Technicians. Team members in this department support the unit of greatest need each day at Helen DeVos Children’s Hospital. As a part of the Resource Center, team members care for various patient populations and have the experience of supporting a different unit each day. The patients, families, and team members all greatly value and appreciate the help and expertise that the Resource Center team provides daily. We have both inpatient and ambulatory spaces as well as a Level 1 trauma Emergency Department designated to children. Scope of work The Behavioral Health Technician (BHT) is a role that provides and maintains a safe and therapeutic environment for the patient requiring direct observation. Working under the delegation of the Bedside RN, the BHT collaborates with the Nurse, Behavioral Health team, MSW, and the Medical Team to upload the established behavioral plan for the patient. The BHT is trained in verbal de-escalation and situational awareness and provided education on the variety of patient populations encountered . The BHT is cross-trained to a limited scope of the Nursing Technician role to learn the skills and tasks of daily patient care and ADLs. Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Psychiatric unit experience

Nice To Haves

  • CRT-Basic Life Support (BLS) - AHA American Heart Association 90 Days
