Kamehameha Schools, Kapalama Campus is currently looking for a Behavioral Health Specialist to support our Residential Life Program. This position has an 11-month work year and will work Tues – Sat from 9am – 5pm, and potentially provide after hours, crisis coverage on Fridays & Saturdays (as needed). Our ideal candidate will have a master’s degree along with 2 years of clinical experience supporting youth or young adults (school-based experience a plus!) In addition, our ideal candidate will be motivated to build pilina with our 24x7 campus-based community and be ok with extending support past the typical work day. Native Hawaiian cultural knowledge and/or ‘olelo Hawai’i would also be helpful! This position will start at the beginning of the school year on 07/29/2026. Pay calculation for this position is determined by the highest degree earned from an accredited institution and the number of verified years of FT, eligible & relevant work experience. Job Summary Provides behavioral health services to students individually and in groups. Provides crisis intervention services following established protocols. Responsible for supporting overall well-being of student. Participates on Student Success Team with responsibility for coordinating development and implementation of student support plans for students identified as needing targeted or intensive supports. Responsible for communicating with families, including home visits, and helping coordinate receipt of off-campus extended professional services with supports at school. Teaches classes to students and is a resource to employees on behavioral health related topics.

Requirements

Minimum Qualifications - An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered for the requirements listed.
Master’s degree in Social Work, Mental Health, or closely related field that meets Department of Commerce and Consumer Affairs (DCCA) educational requirements for clinical licensure in the State of Hawaii as a Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC), Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT), or Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW).
Minimum of 2 years of related work experience.
Valid Driver's License.
Current/valid clinical license in the State of Hawaii (e.g., LMHC, LMFT, or LCSW) or ability to obtain licensure within 2 years of being eligible to sit for the specific test.
Demonstrated ability to facilitate group counseling activities and teach classes on behavioral health topics.
Ability to provide high quality behavioral health counseling and to identify need for outside referral.
High degree of professionalism and genuine concern for the well-being of students.
Excellent oral and written communication skills; organized; good public speaking skills; strong listening skills; ability to relate well to a variety of people (e.g. faculty, staff, students, parents, administrators, external professional service providers).

Experience with counseling age appropriate children and working with families.

Responsibilities

Assessment Conducts assessment and provides behavioral health counseling services to students individually and in groups as appropriate.
Develops behavioral health counseling goals, monitors progress, and makes referrals as warranted.
Monitors and assesses behavior, progress, accountability, health, and safety of students and coordinates with school counselor to address academic and educational supports.
Provides crisis intervention services following established protocols, which may occur after-hours.
Serves as a designated liaison for reporting suspected child abuse or neglect.
Communication and Support Responsible for supporting overall well-being of students.
Participates on Student Success Team with responsibility for coordinating development and implementation of student support plans for students identified as needing targeted or intensive supports.
Responsible for communicating with and supporting families as related to the well-being of the student, including home visits.
Helps with the navigation and coordination of receipt of off-campus professional services.
Works with off-campus professionals and students on support plans.
Consults with administrators, teachers, and counselors as applicable to provide school-based supports to optimize student well-being.
Teaches classes to students and is a resource to employees on behavioral health related topics.
Facilitates workshops for parents that enhance the social and emotional growth of students.
Provides 24-hour immediate crisis/emergency intervention services in situations that affect the safety and well-being of a boarding student.
Consults with dormitory advisors to provide school-based supports to optimize student well-being.
Becomes integrated with the boarding community to support boarding students and the dorm advisors who care for them.
Recommends appropriate placement of boarding students to specific dorms to the Director of Boarding and consults periodically with boarding staff.
Travels to the neighbor islands to conduct home visits.
