About The Position

The Behavioral Health Counselor provides behavioral health counseling, client assessment, and treatment planning services under clinical supervision. This role supports client stabilization, skill development, and engagement in behavioral health services through structured counseling interventions and care coordination. This position is not an independently licensed Clinical Therapist role. Counseling, assessment, and treatment planning activities are performed within scope of training, credentials, and supervision structure, and in accordance with agency policy and regulatory requirements. This role will initially include case management and care coordination responsibilities and transition to increased counseling service delivery as caseload and competency develop.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree OR 3-5 years of case management experience
  • Experience working with behavioral health populations preferred
  • Experience in complex case oversight preferred
  • Ability to provide structured counseling interventions under supervisor
  • Strong documentation and communication skills
  • Strong written, verbal, presentation and communication skills
  • Positive attitude, proactive mentality, responsive, and strong work ethic
  • Ability to interact effectively in a team setting
  • Ability to interact professionally and effectively with victims of crimes and trauma
  • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing
  • Ability to obtain fingerprint clearance and pass a background check

Responsibilities

  • Provide individual counseling services using structured, skills-based, and evidence-informed approaches
  • Support development of coping skills, emotional regulation, and functional life skills
  • Provide psychoeducation and behavioral health skill-building interventions
  • Support treatment goal implementation and client progress monitoring
  • Participate in group counseling or skills-based group services (if assigned)
  • Conduct behavioral health assessments within role scope and supervision structure
  • Develop and update individualized treatment plans based on assessment findings
  • Collaborate with clinical supervisors and treatment team regarding treatment planning and service direction
  • Monitor client progress and update treatment plans as clinically indicated
  • Document clinical rationale and service interventions appropriately
  • Support client access to behavioral health and community services
  • Coordinate with internal programs and external providers
  • Assist with service navigation and barrier reduction
  • Support client engagement and retention in services
  • Complete timely and accurate clinical documentation
  • Follow agency, payer, and regulatory documentation standards
  • Maintain confidentiality and HIPAA compliance
  • Participate in clinical staffing and supervision
  • Collaborate with clinical and community service teams
  • Participate in required training and quality improvement activities
  • Engage in respectful and ongoing communication and problem solving with others
  • Act as a positive and professional ambassador for the Agency both internally and in the greater community
  • Take all practical steps to ensure a work environment that is safe, friendly, helpful and free from harassment or bullying
  • Must be able to handle all facets of the business both standard and non-standard situations
  • Ability to work through translation services if not fluent in a second language
  • Must be willing to accept feedback, and respond in professional manner
