About The Position

The Behavior Intervention Specialist (BIS) is an integral part of the interdisciplinary team providing support, training, and oversight to individuals diagnosed with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities. Utilizing their Master's Degree in a clinical background, their role is to implement psychological support, conduct necessary assessments, implement behavioral support plans, and provide psycho-education to staff.

Requirements

  • Master’s Degree in a clinical and/or treatment field of psychology.
  • Knowledge of Autism, Intellectual/Developmental Disabilities, and individual differences.
  • Knowledge of the clinical best practices in behavioral sciences.
  • Self-directed and motivated to function independently, completing tasks in a timely manner yet; remaining flexible to participant’s needs.
  • Experience in providing behavioral services to individuals with Intellectual/Developmental disabilities and/or Autism Spectrum Disorder.
  • Willing and able to work flexible work schedule, including evenings, weekends, and holidays as necessary and as assigned.
  • Valid driver’s license.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborates with staff from all On Your Mark programs (e.g., Residential, Day Habilitation, Community Habilitation, Respite, Employment Services) towards the development of intervention strategies for behavioral modification and support.
  • Assesses behavioral issues of individuals through clinical sessions, observation, appropriate testing, and other diagnostic procedures and practices.
  • Completes a Functional Behavioral Assessment and devises individualized behavioral support plans, as necessary.
  • Maintains knowledge of standard psychometric assessment instruments typically used with population.
  • Conducts staff development programs.
  • Conducts and attends monthly staff meetings.
  • Trains Direct Support Professionals (DSPs) and other appropriate staff on implementation of behavioral interventions developed and psychiatric diagnoses for the individuals.
  • Monitors implementation of behavior support plans and data collection in conjunction with programs.
  • Completes clinical notes, summaries, and behavioral objectives, as needed.
  • Furnish data and provide documentation for psychiatric consults.
  • Attend, participate, and facilitate administrative meetings, when necessary, with team to address any behavioral/psychiatric concerns.
  • Conducts interdisciplinary treatment team meetings and maintains appropriate documentation.
  • Basic knowledge of OPWDD regulations, in respect to behavioral interventions.
  • May be called upon to respond to crisis situations to assist in implementing interventions until behavior is mitigated.
  • Provides open and professional communication with individuals, parents, families, and colleagues, as needed.
  • Complete OPWDD regulation Human Rights Packet when needed.
  • Maintain necessary and assigned certifications including SCIP.
  • Assumes additional responsibilities when assigned.
