About The Position

BASIC FUNCTIONS OF POSITION: 1. Promotes good public relations for the nursing department/hospital. 2. Provides for patient privacy at all times. 3. Assists in admissions, transfers, and discharges. Collects and documents patient admission data correctly. Secures disposition of patient belongings. 4. Competently performs core and unit specific clinical skills. 5. Knowledgeable of proper and safe use of patient care equipment. 6. Lead prescribed individual or group therapy sessions. 7. Knowledge of crisis intervention techniques. 8. Ability to communicate and interact with students, faculty and/or staff in a team environment.  9. Ability to maintain quality, safety, and/or infection control standards. 10. Ability to observe, assess, and record vital signs, symptoms, reactions, and progress. 11. Ability to provide therapeutic patient care to mentally, emotionally, and/or developmentally disabled individuals. 12. Ability to understand and follow safety procedures. 13. Ability to assess and provide for the day-to-day needs of mentally, emotionally and/or developmentally disabled patients. 14. Ability to safely lift and physically manipulate patients. 15. Skill in preparing and maintaining patient records/charts. 16. Knowledge of patient care charts and patient histories. 17. Aid in basic patient care such as eating, bathing, dressing and teaching and encouraging basic hygiene and other daily living skills while observing patient progress to identify the need for additional services or changes in current treatment.  18. Provide behavioral health emergency assistance, such as verbal de-escalation, seclusion or patient restraint as well as recognize and report homicidal or suicidal comments or behaviors.

Requirements

  • BLS training
  • SECURE training
  • Previous Certified Nurse Assistant/Nurse Assistant experience required.
  • Must have the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served.
  • Must be able to physically perform the requirements of patients in crisis in order to provide safe physical holding of patients and transport techniques.
  • Must have ability to observe patient care areas.
  • Must have ability to auscultate blood pressures and hear patient call light system.
  • Talking is essential in addressing patient/family needs and/or requests and communicating with health care team members.
  • Must have proficient written and verbal communication skills.
  • Must be able to read and comprehend instructions and correspondence moderate in complexity.
  • Must have the ability to communicate the needs of the patients.
