About The Position

The Behavior Educational and Skills Training (BEST) Teacher provides specialized instruction and behavioral support for K-4 students who require assistance developing appropriate social, emotional, and behavioral skills to succeed in the general education environment. This position focuses on proactive behavior intervention, individualized academic instruction, and collaboration with staff, families, and support services to promote student success.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Education, Special Education, or a related field; teaching certification is required.
  • Effective classroom management skills and the ability to create an engaging and intellectually stimulating learning environment.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Valid Arizona IVP fingerprint clearance card
  • Valid Arizona Teaching certificate - Special education certification preferred but not required.
  • Measles/Mumps/Rubella Immunity/Vaccination
  • Valid I-9 form
  • AZ Department of Public Safety IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card

Nice To Haves

  • Master's Degree (MA) preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Provide direct instruction in academic, behavioral, and social-emotional skills aligned with students' Individualized Education Programs (IEPs).
  • Develop and implement behavior intervention plans (BIPs) based on data and evidence-based strategies.
  • Use positive behavior supports, de-escalation techniques, and restorative practices to maintain a safe, supportive classroom environment.
  • Collaborate with general education teachers, support staff, counselors, and psychologists to design and monitor student behavior and learning plans.
  • Collect and analyze behavioral and academic data to monitor student progress and adjust instruction and interventions accordingly.
  • Support students in general education settings when appropriate through modeling, coaching, and gradual reintegration.
  • Communicate regularly with parents and guardians to share progress, strategies, and resources for home support.
  • Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings, IEP meetings, and professional development related to behavioral supports and special education practices.
  • Maintain accurate documentation, including progress reports, data logs, and incident reports.
  • Engage in ongoing professional development opportunities to stay informed about math education trends, teaching strategies, and curriculum enhancements.
