Position: Environmental Sampling Technicians-Multiple (TechLaw) Location: Lowell, MA Status: Part Time (approximately 10 to 20 hours/week), Late May-Early September Travel: Local only (own transportation required) Salary Range: $21-$23/hour DOE Office Site/Remote/Hybrid: Office (Field) Who are We? You are looking to gain practical environmental consulting field experience, with a desire to help ensure that Massachusetts Department of Conservation and Recreation (DCR) beaches are safe for public swimming this summer. You have an ability to multitask, be highly organized, self-motivated, and capable of working independently, with minimal supervision. QualificationsWhat does your day/week look like? You will drive to up to 39 marine and fresh water beaches and recreational areas in the metropolitan Boston area to conduct daily recreational water quality sampling, working under the direction of experienced environmental scientists/engineers. You will wade into fresh and marine water bodies up to three feet (3 ft) in depth to collect the samples. What do you need for this amazing opportunity? Currently enrolled or planning to enroll in an Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree program—preferably in an environmental science or engineering-related field. A valid driver’s license and safe driving record, with your own form of transportation (car, truck, or van). Mileage will be reimbursed at current General Services Administration (GSA) rate of 70 cents/mile. Ability to work early mornings during the week and on weekends and some holidays (Memorial Day, Juneteenth, Independence Day, and Labor Day), as required Ability to work while wearing PPE (personal protective equipment). Ability to pass a medical clearance physical for field activities. Comfortable wading into fresh and marine water bodies up to three feet (3 ft) in depth, with an ability to swim strongly preferred.
