About The Position

The Aurora Reservoir is seeking Beach Lifeguards to protect visitors and provide excellent customer service. Your primary duties involve monitoring the swim beach, responding to emergencies, and maintaining safety in an outdoor environment. It is preferred that candidates are lifeguard certified (Red Cross or StarGuard) and hold current First Aid and CPR credentials. Successful applicants must be capable of heavy physical work, including lifting and swimming in cold water. The target hire date is May 1, 2026 , with training starting in mid-May and the season ending on Labor Day (September 7, 2026). The hiring rate for this role is $18.50/hour. This is classified as VHNE (Variable Hour Non-Benefit Employee), where the selected candidate will work less than 29 hours per week. This position does not provide medical benefits. This position earns sick leave in accordance with the Healthy Families and Workplace Act. The City of Aurora will conduct ongoing screenings of applications on a first-come, first-served basis; as soon as we determine we have a qualified pool of applicants, this position may close quickly and without notice. This job announcement is for collecting candidate applications for current and future Beach Lifeguards. Requirements

  • Lifeguard Certification through Red Cross or another credible agency
  • Lifeguard, First Aid and CPR Certification
  • Moderate to heavy physical work lifting a maximum of 100 pounds with assistance
  • Frequent lifting and carrying of objects weighing up to 50 pounds with or without assistance
  • Regular walking and standing; regular climbing; bending; kneeling and crouching
  • Hand/foot/eye coordination to perform appropriate rescue skills
  • Vision to read instructions
  • Hearing and speech abilities for communication with employees and citizens.

Nice To Haves

  • Water Safety Instructor (WSI) preferred
  • Knowledge of Beachfront safety and emergency action plans
  • Skilled in lifesaving techniques and emergency response
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Ability to maintain a safe environment at an outdoor work site

Responsibilities

  • Provides excellent customer service and performs a variety of tasks related to aquatic safety.
  • Maintains safety and cleanliness of beach front area including providing patron information, responding to beach emergencies, performing daily beach maintenance, gaining voluntary compliance with beach regulations.
  • Additional duties as assigned.
