Toyota’s newest manufacturing facility, Toyota Battery Manufacturing North Carolina (TBMNC), is looking for a passionate and highly motivated Battery Production Engineer, Plug-In Hybrid Electric Vehicle (PHEV). The primary responsibility of this role is to support the Manufacturing of Battery Production by budget planning, providing engineering solutions to improve manufacturing indicators, and managing process changes. Most of all, this person will embody a culture of continuous improvement and will take pride in providing engineering services to manufacturing. Reporting to the Engineering Manager, and working in partnership with production, maintenance, quality and other departments. Candidates must demonstrate their qualifications by achieving acceptable scores in all sections of the interview.

Requirements

  • Ability and willingness to work flexible hours, weekends and holidays/shutdown, dependent on business needs.
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or equivalent years of experience.
  • Manufacturing, engineering, maintenance, quality, and/or project management experience.
  • Demonstrate problem-solving in a fast paced, high-speed manufacturing environment, while collaborating and gaining consensus with support groups.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Microsoft PowerPoint, and AutoCAD 2D/3D.
  • Experience with leading cross functional groups toward a common goal of Safety, Quality, Productivity and/or Cost Savings using strong communication and visualization skills.
  • Experience with project management including writing detailed scope of work, creating schedules, managing vendors/contractors, and providing regular status updates.
  • Operational familiarity working with production operations and various aspects of equipment (i.e., electrical, mechanical, pneumatic, PLC, robotics, safety protocols, etc.).

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working in a Toyota Manufacturing Company.
  • Experience with battery processes, cell, module, or similar experience in highly automated production environment.
  • Experience applying TPS, Just-In-Time and problem-solving tools and methodologies such as Toyota Business Practice and 5-why analysis.
  • Skills related to industrial process engineering (example: machine reliability, controls - program design and user interface work, IoT – process monitoring, data collection and storage, analytics, process / equipment FMEA).

Responsibilities

  • Work closely with a cross functional team to complete trials, increase knowledge, and build relationships
  • Battery trial support, planning, and implementation.
  • Learn the battery process and increase equipment knowledge.
  • Install Auxiliary equipment to support trials and mass production.
  • Various projects to support building readiness, equipment installation, and production readiness.
  • Track and visualize data for Operation Rate, Yield rate, and Scrap to support improving KPIs.
  • Analyze machine data to support problem solving and root cause analysis independently and collaboratively.
  • Daily trial summaries and post-trial reports and reflections.
  • Mass Production Engineering support for Battery Manufacturing.
  • Proactively identify and solve problems by spending time with people and equipment on the production shop floor as well as using automated tools like PowerBi and Toyota’s Manufacturing Execution System.
  • Use a methodical and data driven analytical approach to continuously improve safety, quality, productivity, and cost problems and report status to management members.
  • Strong focus on process and equipment changepoint management and leading innovative engineering activities.
  • Establish and manage budget planning and successful project execution.
  • Engineering related KPIs by driving action through pro-active problem solving, visualizing group condition, and providing measurable & continual improvement.
