About The Position

As a Barn Maintenance Technician, your role is pivotal in ensuring the efficient operation and upkeep of chicken barn facilities, particularly focusing on equipment maintenance and conveyor belt systems. Your responsibilities encompass various tasks aimed at maintaining cleanliness, functionality, and safety within the chicken barn environment.

Requirements

  • Proven experience in equipment maintenance, preferably in a poultry or agricultural setting.
  • Familiarity with conveyor belt systems and related components, including belts, rollers, bearings, and drive mechanisms.
  • Effective communication skills, both verbal and written, and the ability to work collaboratively with other barn staff members.
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Ability to lift and carry heavy objects weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Stamina to stand, walk, and perform physical tasks for extended periods, often in hot or humid conditions.
  • Vision and hearing capabilities to detect equipment malfunctions, read gauges and instruments.

Nice To Haves

  • Additional technical training or certification in maintenance, mechanical engineering, or a related field preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct routine inspections, maintenance, and repairs of equipment specific to chicken barn operations, including feeders, waterers, heaters, ventilation systems, lighting systems, and conveyor belt systems.
  • Troubleshoot equipment malfunctions, identify root causes of issues, and implement timely solutions to minimize downtime and ensure optimal performance.
  • Perform preventive maintenance tasks to extend the lifespan of equipment and prevent unexpected failures.
  • Inspect conveyor belt systems regularly to ensure proper alignment, tension, and functionality.
  • Clean conveyor belts and related components to prevent buildup of debris and contaminants that could compromise efficiency or pose health hazards.
  • Lubricate moving parts and bearings to reduce friction and prevent premature wear.
  • Replace worn or damaged conveyor belt components, such as rollers, belts, and pulleys, to maintain smooth operation and prevent breakdowns.
  • Clean and sanitize all areas of the chicken barn, paying attention to conveyor belt areas to prevent cross-contamination and ensure food safety.
  • Remove litter, waste, and other debris from conveyor belt systems and surrounding areas to maintain hygiene and prevent pest infestation.
  • Follow established cleaning protocols and use appropriate disinfectants to eliminate pathogens and minimize the risk of disease transmission among the chicken population.
  • Adhere to safety protocols and guidelines while performing maintenance tasks, including the proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and adherence to lockout/tagout procedures.
  • Participate in safety training programs and promote a culture of safety awareness among barn staff.
  • Document repairs, adjustments, and replacements made to conveyor belt systems, noting the date, time, and nature of the work performed.
