About The Position

The Barn Attendant will join the team at the Helen Woodward Animal Center, working with horses in a veterinary setting. This role involves maintaining safety and proper horse handling etiquette. Key duties include feeding, cleaning, watering, grooming, and exercising all department livestock as needed. The attendant will also gain experience by assisting Veterinarians and Veterinary Technicians with horses, assisting with disinfecting procedures of stalls/procedure rooms, and helping with minor equipment and building maintenance. Participation in Center activities and events is also required.

Requirements

  • Understand the basics of equine husbandry
  • Possess knowledge of all types of equine food substances
  • Ability to safely work around a variety of horses
  • Skilled in proper restraint and handling of horses
  • Able to safely lift 50 lbs
  • Ability to think ahead
  • Ability to work in a fast pace emergency hospital setting
  • Able to work independently
  • Able to work in a team environment
  • Good verbal communication skills
  • Good written communication skills
  • Able to interact with clients professionally
  • Demonstrate regular and consistent attendance and punctuality

Nice To Haves

  • Desire to go to veterinary school
  • Extensive horse experience
