About The Position

Our Equine Veterinary Hospital is seeking a dedicated and skilled Barn Assistant to support daily barn and surgical operations. This role is essential in maintaining a safe, clean, and efficient environment for our patients and team. The ideal candidate has strong experience handling horses, communicates well, and thrives in a fast-paced, team-oriented setting.

Requirements

Advanced equine handling skills; able to read horse body language with confidence.
Experience working in an equine veterinary or horse-care environment preferred.
Self-motivated and willing to learn; able to work independently and as part of a team.
Comfortable working in a physical, animal-care environment.
Flexible with schedule and able to work uncommon hours or respond to emergencies.
Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.

Nice To Haves

Experience working in an equine veterinary or horse-care environment preferred.

Responsibilities

Admit patients and assist with daily patient intake.
Maintain cleanliness and organization of barn, patient, and surgical support areas.
Safely restrain and handle horses and foals for exams and procedures.
Assist with wound care, including cleaning, scrubbing, rinsing, and supporting bandage application.
Perform barn tech duties including monitoring bandages and reporting concerns.
Hand-graze or exercise patients as needed.
Feed and assist with general care of hospitalized patients.
Communicate effectively with veterinarians, the Practice Manager, and team members.
Promote professionalism, teamwork, and a positive work environment.
Follow written and verbal instructions accurately.
Support quality improvement initiatives and perform additional duties as assigned.
