About The Position

The Barista is responsible for preparing and serving a variety of coffee beverages, teas, and other drinks to customers in a café, coffee shop, or similar establishment. They create a welcoming and friendly atmosphere while providing excellent customer service and ensuring the quality and consistency of beverages.

Requirements

  • Previous experience as a barista or in a similar role is preferred but not required.
  • Knowledge of coffee brewing methods, espresso machines, and drink recipes is a plus.
  • Excellent customer service and communication skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and multitask effectively.
  • Attention to detail and a passion for delivering high-quality beverages and service.
  • Flexibility to work early mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Greet customers warmly and take their orders with a friendly demeanor.
  • Provide recommendations on coffee blends, brewing methods, and specialty drinks.
  • Engage with customers in a polite and professional manner, addressing any questions or concerns they may have.
  • Prepare and serve a variety of coffee-based drinks, including espresso, cappuccino, latte, and macchiato, according to established recipes and standards.
  • Operate espresso machines, coffee grinders, and other equipment safely and efficiently.
  • Ensure the quality and consistency of beverages by following proper brewing techniques and standards.
  • Prepare and serve light food items such as pastries, sandwiches, and snacks.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of the food preparation area, including display cases and refrigerators.
  • Ensure that food items are presented attractively and packaged appropriately for customers.
  • Handle cash, credit card transactions, and POS systems accurately and efficiently.
  • Process orders promptly and provide customers with correct change or receipts.
  • Upsell additional items such as baked goods or specialty drinks to enhance sales and customer satisfaction.
  • Clean and sanitize coffee machines, countertops, utensils, and other equipment regularly.
  • Monitor inventory levels of coffee beans, syrups, milk, and other supplies and restock as needed.
  • Maintain cleanliness and orderliness of the café or coffee shop, including seating areas and restrooms.
  • Work collaboratively with other team members, including baristas, servers, and kitchen staff, to ensure smooth operations.
  • Communicate effectively with colleagues and supervisors to coordinate tasks and provide support as needed.
  • Assist with training and mentoring new baristas on beverage preparation techniques, customer service standards, and company policies.
