About The Position

The Bariatric Program Coordinator is responsible for overseeing the clinical, administrative, and accreditation components of a comprehensive bariatric surgery program. This role serves as a key liaison between patients, providers, and multidisciplinary teams to ensure high-quality care, regulatory compliance, and optimal patient outcomes throughout the bariatric care continuum—from initial consultation through post-operative follow-up.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in nursing, health administration, or a related field preferred
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Excellent organizational and time-management abilities
  • Proficiency with electronic medical records (EMR) and data collection systems
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary healthcare team
  • Detail-oriented with strong problem-solving skills
  • Prior experience in a clinical, hospital, or surgical setting required

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with bariatric surgery programs or surgical services strongly preferred
  • Knowledge of bariatric patient pathways, insurance requirements, and accreditation standards a plus
  • Certification in Bariatric nursing preferred (CBN)

Responsibilities

  • Guide patients through all phases of the bariatric surgery process, including pre-operative preparation, surgery, and post-operative care
  • Provide patient education on surgical options, lifestyle changes, nutritional guidelines, and long-term follow-up requirements
  • Coordinate and facilitate bariatric seminars, educational sessions, and patient support groups
  • Serve as a patient advocate, addressing concerns and ensuring continuity of care
  • Coordinate pre-operative requirements such as medical clearances, testing, and specialty consultations
  • Schedule appointments and procedures with surgeons, dietitians, psychologists, and other care team members
  • Monitor patient progress and status before and after surgery
  • Collaborate with physicians and clinical staff to ensure adherence to clinical protocols and care pathways
  • Ensure compliance with Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery Accreditation and Quality Improvement Program (MBSAQIP) or Center of Excellence (COE) standards
  • Collect, manage, and analyze clinical data and outcomes for quality improvement initiatives
  • Prepare and maintain documentation for accreditation surveys and audits
  • Participate in performance improvement projects to enhance patient outcomes and program efficiency
  • Manage insurance verification, prior authorizations, and referrals related to bariatric services
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation within electronic medical records (EMR)
  • Develop and maintain departmental policies, procedures, and workflow guidelines
  • Track program metrics, reports, and correspondence
  • Assist in the development and implementation of bariatric program policies and procedures
  • Support marketing and outreach initiatives to promote program growth
  • Collaborate with leadership to identify opportunities for service expansion and improved patient engagement
  • Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings and strategic planning
