About The Position

CHS Inc., a leading global agribusiness and the largest farmer-owned cooperative in the U.S., is seeking a Barge Freight Trader to manage and optimize the transportation of agricultural commodities via inland waterways. This role is critical in ensuring efficient, cost-effective, and timely movement of goods across the barge network.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or GED
  • 2+ years of experience in Supply Chain and Procurement and/or Commodities
  • 2+ years of experience in Trading

  • Bachelor's degree preferred in Accounting, Business, Economics, Finance, Statistics, or related field

Responsibilities

  • Analyze and determine barge freight trading strategies to optimize opportunities, volume and profit while controlling risk.
  • Act as first point of contact with barge carriers to source and procure barge capacity that is needed across the river system
  • Manage, plan and optimize barge capacity supply versus demand
  • Apply understanding of barge freight trading terms, trade flows, risk measurement and profit and loss analysis.
  • Coordinate with internal and external customers to grow CHS business in a profitable manner, manage risk, reduce cost and determine the best sourcing options.
  • Collaborate with various product lines and river terminals to ensure pricing and logistical needs are being met
  • Coordinate with internal and external stakeholders to ensure execution runs smoothly.
  • Maintain and promote a strong safety culture and follow all safety policies, procedures and regulations. Identify and communicate workplace hazards and correct or seek assistance in correcting unsafe actions or conditions.
  • Oversee customer service and quickly resolve issues with traders, terminals and other supply chain stakeholders
  • Provide various market and economic analysis, supply/demand reports, price strategy development and guidance, and risk management strategies.
  • Establish and maintain relationships with key industry leaders, strategic community partners, and be involved with industry associations.
  • Manage sales budget and expenses, forecast product supply and demand by account.
  • Prepare and conduct presentations, negotiate contracts, and proposals.
  • Supply Chain Management: manage relationships with internal production and customers; assist with issues such as logistics, quality assurance.
