About The Position

This position is responsible for overseeing the service of all banquets and banquet-related food and beverage operations as well as conference services and audio-visual operation at The Houstonian Hotel. This role is critical to maintaining the luxury standard and reputation of The Houstonian Hotel, Club & Spa while upholding the highest levels of discretion and professionalism.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • 5+ years of Banquet Service experience in a high-volume luxury hotel environment, with at least 2 years in a supervisory/leadership role
  • Hours required: Scheduled days and hours vary based on departmental needs.
  • Must have a TABC certificate and Food Handlers Certification.
  • Must be able to meet the following minimum physical requirements for at least an eight-hour shift:
  • Physical Stamina: Frequent standing, walking, climbing of ladders and stairs, kneeling, reaching overhead, lifting and carrying various objects weighing up to 50 lbs. With another team member push or pull loaded carts weighing 600 lbs. Must be able to communicate effectively. Must be able to perform all activities in a professional manner. Must be able to see and read printed matter with or without vision aids.
  • Hearing / Speech: Must be able to effectively engage in one-on-one communication with guests, members, and customers and use a 2-way radio to communicate clearly and accurately with co-workers.
  • Vision: Must be able to accurately read instructions, reports, and log sheets. Must be able to work with computers and PDAs in varying light conditions.
  • Literacy: Must be able to analyze and process written information from a variety of sources and effectively communicate content of reports.
  • Chemicals/Agents: Must be able to work safely with chemicals according to SDS sheets and all applicable laws, codes and regulatory requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Inspect the environment to ensure that it is safe for guests and employees and that rooms are set up to meet guests’ requirements and expectations.
  • Meet with Director of Banquets to review events for his shift.
  • Identify V.I.P.'s and special guests anticipated at his function.
  • Maintain a commitment to customer service and guest satisfaction.
  • Perform all guest contact activities such as meeting on site coordinators and verifying schedule of service and or set ups, cover safety procedures, answering guest questions, etc. in a cordial, efficient and professional manner.
  • Ensure that the food and beverages are served while maintaining a consistent presentation and proper temperature.
  • Maintain a cooperative, team-like attitude in working with supervisors and fellow employees (including other departments).
  • Enforce all sanitation procedures including safety guidelines and requirements.
  • Organizing equipment for a function as well as cleaning, maintaining, and looking after equipment during and after functions.
  • Make sure all the storerooms are clean, organized and secure.
  • Immediate communication of special requests, guest problems or concerns to the Banquet Chef.
  • Monitor the cashier procedures of the events.
  • Follow all designated opening and closing procedures to ensure areas are secure and energy efficient.
  • Adhere to all department and The Houstonian Hotel Club and Spa policies and procedures.
  • Return leftover food to kitchen following proper handling procedures.
  • Ensure the proper handling and cleaning of all equipment, china, glass, and silver.
  • Other duties as assigned.
