About The Position
Located in the heart of Kansas City’s iconic Country Club Plaza, the Cascade Hotel is part of Marriott’s Tribute Portfolio — a collection of independent hotels known for their character, creativity, and exceptional guest experiences. At Cascade, we pair modern luxury with local charm to deliver memorable stays and elevated culinary offerings. Our banquet culinary team plays a vital role in supporting weddings, corporate events, social celebrations, and specialty functions. We are seeking a dedicated and talented Banquet Prep & Cook 1 to join our culinary team. This position supports high-volume banquet operations through excellent preparation, consistency, and teamwork. The right candidate will take pride in delivering high-quality dishes that reflect our hotel's commitment to Marriott service standards and the Tribute Portfolio brand.
Requirements
- Previous banquet, catering, or high-volume cooking experience preferred
- Strong understanding of basic cooking techniques and commercial kitchen equipment
- Ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment while maintaining attention to detail
- Strong communication and teamwork skills
- Commitment to maintaining a clean, safe, and guest-focused work environment
- Passion for food quality, presentation, and hospitality
- Stand and walk for extended periods (up to 8–10 hours)
- Lift, carry, push, and pull items up to 50 lbs routinely
- Bend, stoop, reach, and perform repetitive motions throughout the shift
- Work in hot, fast-paced kitchen environments
- Safely use kitchen tools, knives, and equipment
- Work flexible hours including evenings, weekends, and holidays based on event schedules
Responsibilities
- Prepare and cook menu items for banquet events following established recipes, portion standards, and Marriott quality expectations
- Assist with setup and breakdown of banquet prep stations, mise en place, and cooking equipment
- Maintain exceptional cleanliness and organization of kitchen, storage, and prep areas
- Adhere to all food safety, sanitation, and HACCP guidelines
- Properly label, rotate, and store all food items using FIFO procedures
- Assist with receiving, inspecting, and storing food and supply deliveries
- Support plating, garnishing, and execution of dishes during high-volume events
- Review and follow Banquet Event Orders (BEOs) to ensure accuracy in menu production and event timelines
- Communicate low-stock items, prep needs, and equipment issues to culinary leadership
- Collaborate with the Executive Chef, Sous Chef, and Banquet Captains to ensure seamless and timely service
- Uphold Marriott’s standards of hospitality, teamwork, professionalism, and safety
