About The Position

The Banquet Cook is responsible preparing and producing meals for hotel banquet events while maintaining safety and sanitation standards in line with local regulations and hotel expectations. A commitment to high-quality food standards is essential, alongside responsibilities for stocking refrigerators, discarding expired products, and completing daily cleaning tasks. Collaboration with culinary teams and engagement with guests is crucial to ensure a smooth and efficient service experience.

Requirements

  • Ability to cook in large format/batch cooking; produce soups, sauces, proteins, large quantities of cut vegetables and fruits, creating displays for buffets.
  • Communication skills, written and verbal, in the primary language(s) used in the workplace.
  • Basic technology and computational skills.
  • Ability to work independently or as part of a team.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule including, nights, weekends and/or holidays.
  • Ability to read and follow recipes.
  • Ability to navigate and use necessary software and applications.
  • Ability to perceive and detect uncleanliness and soiled surfaces.
  • Knowledge of, or ability to learn, basic food safety practices and abide by them.
  • Efficient knife skills and ability to prepare food using the necessary equipment.
  • Must be able to exert well-paced mobility for up to 8 hours in limited space.
  • Ability to position self to fulfill work tasks, cleaning duties, and use required equipment; requires manual dexterity, hand-eye coordination, and performing repetitive motions.
  • Must be able to position self to fulfill cleaning tasks.
  • Frequently requires transporting or lifting items weighing up to 75 pounds, and maneuvering carts and equipment weighing up to 200 pounds on a regular and continuing basis.
  • Work tasks are performed indoors. Temperature is moderate and controlled by hotel environmental systems; however, must be able to work in extreme temperatures like freezers (-10 F) and kitchens (+110 F).
  • A high school or equivalent education is preferred.
  • Minimum of six months of prior food service experience is required.
  • Due to the cyclical nature of the hospitality industry, associates may be required to work varying schedules to reflect the business needs of the hotel. In addition, attendance at all scheduled training sessions and meetings are required.
  • Upon employment, all associates are required to fully comply with Crowne Plaza Lansing rules and regulations for the safe and effective operations of the Hotel’s facilities. Associates who violate Hotel rules and regulations will be subject to disciplinary action, up to and including, separation.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and produce meals for Hotel banquet events.
  • Maintain safety and sanitation standards in accordance with local and state laws, as well as Hotel standards and expectations.
  • Uphold a high-quality standard of food.
  • Ensure expired product is discarded.
  • Ensure the refrigerators are stocked and in working order.
  • Prep as needed to ensure smooth and efficient service.
  • Complete daily cleaning tasks.
  • Assist with all culinary needs and steward functions as necessary.
  • Engage with guests and fellow associates using D.A.R.E. to Connect behaviors.
