About The Position

Love nature? Then you’re going to love The Nat.     The San Diego Natural History Museum (The Nat) was founded by amateur naturalists in 1874 and has played a major role in the conversation of our region. The Museum recently celebrated its 150th anniversary and completed a strategic plan focused on encouraging a love for nature, levering science and collections for conservation, and using our own voice to be here for nature. The San Diego Natural History Museum is seeking enthusiastic and friendly part - time, as needed, Banquet Bartenders for special events. This position provides guests an unparalleled customer service experience.  The ideal candidate will be comfortable preparing drink orders for guests according to specified recipes using measuring systems. Issue, open, and serve wine/champagne bottles. Set up and maintain cleanliness and condition of bar, bar unit, tables, and other tools. Prepare fresh garnishes for drinks. Stock ice, glassware, and paper supplies. Transport supplies to bar set-up area. Wash soiled glassware. Remove soiled wares from bar top and tables and place in designated area. Anticipate and communicate replenishment needs. Process all payment methods. Secure liquors, beers, wines, coolers, cabinets, and storage areas. Complete closing duties.  This position requires Saturday and Sunday availability. Holidays and some evenings are required. The San Diego Natural History Museum is open daily, except for Thanksgiving and Christmas Day.

Requirements

  • 2+ years of restaurant bartending experience and/or banquet bartending experience preferred.
  • Must possess valid food handler card or willing to get in first (30) days of employment.
  • Strong math aptitude.
  • Comfortable dealing with a wide array of guests and customer service situations.
  • Must be R.B.S., L.E.A.D., ServSafe certified or willing to get in first (30) days of employment.
  • If hired a background check will be required.
  • Ability to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects weighing up to 50 lbs. without assistance

Responsibilities

  • Follow company and department safety and security policies and procedures to ensure a clean, safe, and secure environment.
  • Develop and maintain positive and productive working relationships with other employees and departments.
  • Stand, sit, or walk for an extended period of time or for an entire work shift.
  • Reach overhead and below the knees, including bending, twisting, pulling, and stooping.
  • Follow appropriate procedures for serving alcohol. (R.B.S., L.E.A.D., ServSafe)
  • Anticipate and communicate replenishment needs promptly, ensuring no shortages throughout scheduled function time, and ensuring proper authorization for additional payments as required prior to replenishing.
