About The Position

We are seeking a dedicated Bank Security Officer to protect our physical premises, employees, customers, and assets while providing support for cybersecurity and fraud related initiatives. This role combines traditional security duties along with assisting client-facing bank staff, IT security teams, and compliance staff to maintain a secure environment, reduce fraud, and meet regulatory standards. This Bank Security Officer is responsible for overseeing the Bank's physical security program, providing fraud investigations and response support, and assisting cybersecurity monitoring and staff education. This role serves as a key liaison between bank staff, IT team, vendors and leadership to ensure the safety of people, facilities, and information assets. The Bank Security Officer will have an active role in bank contingency planning and responses. This position is hands-on and operational.

Responsibilities

  • Physical Security Management:
  • Acts as the Bank's security officer (by Board Appointment Annually)
  • Ensure Bank compliance with the Bank Security Act
  • Manages day-to-day physical security operations at all locations
  • Oversees locks, doors, lighting, and perimeter security at all locations.
  • Monitor entrances, exits, and restricted areas to prevent unauthorized access.
  • Conduct regular physical patrols of premises, including parking areas and ATM locations.
  • Deliver physical security training regularly
  • Oversee testing of bank security systems to ensure full operation, training and communicating with managers and staff to ensure proper handling and operation of security systems.
  • Assist Branch Staff by assigning vault and alarm codes
  • Coordinate the assignment/log of keys and door codes with bank management. Work with appropriate vendors and locksmiths as needed.
  • Identify and recommend improvements to physical security controls.
  • Respond to physical security incidents, including alarms, break-ins, suspicious activity or safety concerns.
  • Coordinate with IT team to ensure adequate equipment, maintenance, and monitoring is in place. This position would research and recommend physical security systems like surveillance, electronic locks, and alarms, and the IT team would procure the equipment and negotiate maintenance contracts, but coordinate with Bank Security Officer on installation. This position also coordinates with Bank Facilities personnel to ensure the building aspects of security are handled.
  • Cybersecurity Support:
  • Assist IT security teams with monitoring On- Premise cybersecurity alerts, system incidents and potential cybersecurity events and documenting incidents.
  • Support incident response documentation and internal reporting.
  • Help enforce cybersecurity policies and procedures across the organization.
  • Participate in cybersecurity awareness training and periodic tabletop exercises.
  • Support staff on cybersecurity best practices including:
  • Password best practices
  • Phishing and social engineering awareness
  • Secure workstation and device usage
  • Safe handling of customer information
  • Fraud Support:
  • Assist the risk department and compliance teams during fraud investigations.
  • Gather and document evidence related to suspected fraudulent activity.
  • Support customer education initiatives on fraud prevention best practices.
  • Respond to client related fraud incidents. Includes meeting directly with clients to intervene, gather information, provide education and reassurance, explain next steps and preventive measures, and engage law enforcement as needed
  • Incident Response:
  • Respond to emergencies such as theft, cyber incidents, or fraud attempts
  • Coordinate with law enforcement, cybersecurity teams, and emergency services when necessary
  • Active in the Contingency Plan workgroup and responses
  • Compliance & Documentation:
  • Maintain accurate logs of security activities, cyber support actions, and fraud support tasks
  • Ensure adherence to bank security policies and regulatory requirements
  • Annually Report to the Board of Directors
  • Law Enforcement Liaison:
  • This position will be the primary contact and liaison for local law enforcement agencies. The Bank Security Officer should develop and maintain relationships with all relevant law enforcement agencies, participate in and monitor communications, and coordinate appropriate coverage and response.
