The Balance of Plant Civil/Structural Engineering Manager will provide leadership to a diverse technical team of dedicated engineers and scientists focused on the oversight of the design and development of BOP structures (Turbine Building, Radwaste Building, Control/Auxiliary Building), the applications of those structures to specific opportunities and early site characterization work needed to develop those projects. In this role you will be responsible for the design planning, coordination, and oversight of the building requirements for product development work and the application of project specific work. You will coordinate with the GVH engineering teams and our external engineering and construction partners. For early site characterization work this includes planning and coordination of on-site activities. You oversee the team that ensures all aspects of the project align with engineering and design specifications, industry standards, and construction regulations. You will also foster effective technical communication by liaising with contractors, subcontractors, and other project stakeholders.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering Discipline or similar
  • Minimum 10 years direct experience in power plant design and construction
  • Minimum of 10 years of direct design, development and deployment experience of power plants for complex, high reliability, and harsh environment or similar facilities in the power, process, marine industries.
  • Minimum 3 years of proven experience managing and directing an Engineering Team of 10-20 persons

Nice To Haves

  • Licensed Professional Engineer – US, Canada or Other
  • Advanced Degree (Master’s or Ph.D.) in areas applicable to Design of Power plants.
  • Working knowledge and ability to apply codes and standards in the USA, Canada and EU.
  • Working knowledge of geotechnical testing and reporting necessary for construction on a specific site.
  • Working knowledge of grubbing, grading (drainage), and excavation design for power plant implementation on specific sites.
  • Working knowledge of the structural design and analysis related to the design of Steam Turbine foundations and buildings
  • Working knowledge of the structural design and analysis related to the design of Control & Electrical buildings.
  • Proven ability to be a liaison between organizations that are operating in separate geographic locations

  • EPC experience and knowledge; specifically, power plant

  • Demonstrated ability to document, plan, market and manage programs that further the knowledge, understanding and capability of the business

Responsibilities

  • Report solid line to the Senior Manager Advanced Applications Engineering – Systems Engineering.
  • Own and be accountable for providing technical guidance on standard plant design, applications to customer’s site-specific requirements, and regulatory requirements.
  • Have ownership and accountability from initial requirement setting and conceptual engineering through final design, construction, and plant turnover to the customer.
  • Manage interfaces with partners and suppliers in support of the GVH Nuclear portfolio.
  • Work closely with other engineering disciplines to coordinate the performance of plant design, plant layout, commodity interference resolution and system design.
  • Ensure that the necessary design intent/requirements are captured and documented.
  • Provide technical and managerial leadership for a diverse team being accountable for on-time delivery of design products within budget
  • Inspire, hire, coach and ensure the development of the teams technical and leadership talent/depth
  • Establish and maintain strong working relationships with other internal engineering team managers, business leaders, project managers and stakeholders
  • Interface with external partners, customers, and other applicable country specific regulatory agencies, as required on technical issues
  • Provide leadership supporting performance and program management of assigned work and ensure on-time fulfillment of engineering commitments in accordance with contract requirements, business procedures, industry standards and regulatory agency guidelines
  • Plan, organize and manage the delivery of technical activities/tasks in support of engineering deliverables
  • Provide guidance and manage external resources to ensure the quality of deliverables, enable flexibility and improved cost positions
  • Support commercial and marketing opportunities to develop new business opportunities
  • Protect the Intellectual Property rights of GVH
  • Support GVH initiatives, process improvement and simplification
  • Support GVH Nuclear Energy quality requirements, including participation in design reviews, initiating Condition Reports, and responding to Corrective Actions.
  • Ensure adherence to GVH’s standards for nuclear safety and compliance
  • Streamline, integrate and develop team technical information sharing processes across GVH and its partners to better support business through application of Lean principles
  • Partner with business teams and present product/program strategies, technical roadmaps, risks, and recommendations to senior leads across GVH
