Responsibilities

  • Maintains an atmosphere of enthusiastic customer awareness with a focus on fast, friendly service.
  • Assists customers by making product suggestions, filling special orders, and offering food preparation recommendations.
  • Responds to incoming calls professionally; resolves customer complaints and escalates to the Store Director when necessary.
  • Uses suggestive selling techniques through telephone communication, in‑store intercom announcements, and one‑on‑one interaction.
  • Possesses detailed knowledge of duties performed by all department employees; oversees and assists with product preparation and display.
  • Implements proper, efficient product preparation and packaging techniques.
  • Maintains bakery case cleanliness, visual appeal, sanitation, and inventory levels.
  • Ensures bakery area, equipment, and prep areas meet cleanliness, sanitation, and safety standards.
  • Ensures correct product temperatures are maintained during preparation, display, and storage.
  • Builds bakery displays; rotates stock and removes outdated or spoiled product.
  • Maintains and organizes the bakery cooler and freezer.
  • Implements seasonal and promotional displays in alignment with division programs.
  • Follows and maintains department standards for product freshness and overall bakery execution.
  • Schedules, supervises, trains, and assigns duties to department employees, ensuring sufficient service levels.
  • Monitors employee productivity and evaluates overall performance.
  • Trains employees on store policies, production standards, sales techniques, and record‑keeping procedures.
  • Identifies employees with high advancement potential and supports development opportunities.
  • Initiates personnel actions including pre‑employment interviews, transfers, promotions, and disciplinary actions.
  • Possesses working knowledge of Company policies and guidelines as outlined in the Albertsons/Tom Thumb Employee Handbook.
  • Ensures proper code‑dating procedures are followed for all bakery products.
  • Plans daily department operations and monitors production processes to ensure efficiency and profitability.
  • Prepares sales and inventory reports; participates in physical inventory every four weeks.
  • Controls inventory to ensure adequate product quantity, quality, and freshness.
  • Stocks and rotates product in accordance with division directives.
  • Maintains accurate department records and processes administrative paperwork.
  • Controls shrink and manages cost effectively.
  • Ensures adherence to opening and closing procedures for the department.
  • Performs receiving duties including breaking down loads, verifying orders against invoices, inspecting product quality, reporting shortages, stocking, and rotating merchandise.
  • Ensures proper temperature, storage, and packaging techniques are followed.
  • Operates related equipment including pallet jacks, hand trucks, scissors, knives, safety cutters, and Sterilox machines.
