Responsibilities

  • Maintain an atmosphere of enthusiastic customer awareness with a strong emphasis on fast and friendly service.
  • Assist customers with product suggestions, special orders, and preparation recommendations.
  • Engage in suggestive selling and other sales techniques through telephone, in‑store intercom announcements, and one‑on-one interactions.
  • Answer incoming calls professionally; resolve customer complaints or escalate to the Store Director as needed.
  • Possess specific working knowledge of duties performed by all department employees; oversee and assist with product preparation and display.
  • Implement proper and efficient product preparation, handling, and packaging techniques.
  • Maintain bakery case presentation, visual appeal, and inventory levels.
  • Ensure bakery equipment, prep areas, and the department meet cleanliness, sanitation, and safety standards.
  • Maintain proper temperature levels throughout product preparation, display, and storage.
  • Understand and follow opening and closing procedures for the bakery department.
  • Schedule, supervise, train, and assign duties to department employees; ensure adequate staffing and service levels.
  • Train employees in store policies, sales techniques, food handling methods, and record‑keeping procedures.
  • Identify high‑potential employees and support their development for advancement opportunities.
  • Monitor employee productivity and provide performance feedback.
  • Initiate personnel actions including interviews, transfers, promotions, and disciplinary steps.
  • Plan daily operations and monitor production processes to maintain efficiency and profitability.
  • Prepare sales and inventory reports; participate in physical inventory every 4 weeks.
  • Maintain appropriate product quantity, quality, and freshness according to division directives.
  • Stock, rotate, and organize product in coolers and freezers.
  • Manage shrink and department costs through proper ordering, handling, storage, and rotation.
  • Build effective displays; rotate and remove outdated or spoiled products.
  • Implement promotional and seasonal merchandising programs.
  • Enforce proper code‑dating practices for all bakery products.
  • Maintain knowledge of company policies and guidelines as outlined in the Albertsons/Tom Thumb Employee Handbook.
  • Ensure department standards for safety, sanitation, quality, and presentation are consistently maintained.
  • Ensure proper adherence to food safety practices, temperature controls, labeling requirements, and sanitation procedures.
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work environment at all times.
  • Perform receiving duties including breaking down loads, verifying invoices, inspecting product quality, reporting shortages, stocking, and rotating product.
  • Follow all product temperature, storage, and packaging guidelines.
  • Complete and maintain required administrative paperwork and accurate department records.
