About The Position

To assist in the operation and maintenance of the treatment plant and pump stations. Reports to Plant Operator, Head Custodian, and the Director of Facilities. When instructed, should be capable of taking over temporary control and operation of the plant in the absence of the Plant Superintendent.

Requirements

• Must possess a Massachusetts Grade 3M Wastewater Operators License.
• High school diploma, G.E.D., or equivalent.
• Should thoroughly understand the plant process and equipment.
• Operators shall be familiar with recording, record keeping, and reporting procedures.
• Must be capable of following both oral and written instructions and be capable of giving both oral and written instructions.
• Must know how to operate a variety of hand and power tools and possess a good mechanical background.
• Must be capable of working independently, work well with others, and know how to use a personal computer and have general knowledge of data acquisition equipment.
• Must be available for scheduled overtime on weekdays, weekends, and holidays.

Nice To Haves

• At least two years of experience as a back-up wastewater treatment plant operator or equivalent.
• Bachelors of Science in Environmental, Biology, Chemical, Sanitary or Civil Engineering.
• Associates degree in the above fields.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate and assist with others any necessary repairs to equipment and grounds, and maintain on file accurate and up to date records and daily log.
• Carries out necessary repairs and maintenance.
• Maintain proper operation of all plant equipment.
• In the event of a dry weather overflow, must immediately notify the Highway Department.
• Prepare a written report to the proper regulatory agencies with five working days of such an event.
• Maintain records on file and file monthly reports.
• Performs all other duties contained in the custodian, outside maintenance, and maintenance job descriptions.
• Other related duties as may be assigned by the Plant Operator, Head Custodian, and the Supervisor of Buildings, Grounds, and Maintenance.
