About The Position

The Background Investigator independently conducts thorough reviews of driver applications and consumer reports, verifying employment history, identifying gaps, and documenting verification results. This role involves compliance and eligibility assessments, making decisions on additional criminal history and motor vehicle reports, identifying non-compliant applications, resolving file discrepancies, and preparing driver qualification files in line with company standards. The investigator also recommends process improvements to mitigate risks and maintain efficiency. Requirements

  • Skilled in independently evaluating and interpreting applicant data in alignment with complex regulatory standards, exercising sound judgment on eligibility and compliance.
  • Skilled in operating standard office equipment (PC, fax machine, copier, zoom phone).
  • Highly proficient in Windows and Microsoft office, including accurate and efficient data entry.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and organizational abilities, ensuring the accuracy and security of sensitive information in a high-volume, fast-paced environment.
  • Clear, professional written and verbal communication skills for resolving file issues and coordinating with applicants, with a demonstrated ability to solve complex issues promptly.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously while maintaining accuracy and compliance under deadlines.
  • High school diploma required.
  • Minimum of 1 year of relevant office experience or equivalent.
  • Proficiency in PC usage with at least 1 year of hands-on experience.

Responsibilities

  • Independently conduct thorough reviews of driver applications and consumer reports, verifying employment history, identifying gaps, and documenting verification results.
  • Conduct compliance and eligibility assessments by evaluating driver applications and verification details, making decisions on additional criminal history and motor vehicle reports as needed.
  • Proactively identify and flag applications that do not meet company standards, placing holds on driver files and initiating corrective actions for unmet employment or Tractor Trailer School requirements.
  • Maintain effective communication with applicants, previous employers, internal supervisors, and the safety department to resolve file discrepancies promptly, ensuring timely and accurate decision-making.
  • Prepare and finalize driver qualification files in line with company compliance standards, following a detailed checklist to ensure accuracy, completeness, and adherence to regulatory and internal requirements.
  • Identify and recommend opportunities for improvement in background verification processes, collaborating with compliance teams to mitigate risks and maintain efficiency.
