About The Position

The Cross-Connection Technician administers and maintains the federal and state required cross-connection control regulations of the Safe Drinking Water Act and the Colorado Primary Drinking Water Regulations through the City's cross-connection control and backflow prevention program.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Current Backflow Tester Certification ASSE or ABPA or the ability to obtain certification within 6 months.
  • State of Colorado Distribution I Certification or ability to obtain certification within 1 year.
  • Computer skills, including the ability to utilize Microsoft Office programs (i.e., Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc.), TRAKIT, GIS, SpryBackflow, and learn and experiment with new software and systems.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and reliable professional judgment, as well as collaboratively with a team to achieve desired results.
  • OR
  • Any combination of related education, experience, certifications, and licenses that will result in a candidate successfully performing the essential functions of the job
  • AND
  • Possession of a valid driver’s license.

Nice To Haves

  • One (1) to three (3) years of experience in at least one of the following areas:
  • Basic mechanical experience
  • Backflow assembly repair
  • Water distribution
  • Plumbing
  • Current Cross Connection Certification or related field experience.
  • State of Colorado Distribution I Certification or higher or distribution system experience.

Responsibilities

  • Monitors and maintains data in the cross-connection software database.
  • Enters and verifies accuracy of backflow test report results.
  • Maintains records of certified backflow testers, companies, and equipment calibration.
  • Updates and reconciles backflow assembly records within the database.
  • Performs updates between Utility Billing software and backflow systems to maintain database integrity.
  • Prints and mails backflow test due notices on schedule.
  • Conducts site surveys for non-residential properties to verify installation and hazard level.
  • Visits sites without documented assemblies to develop compliance plans.
  • Processes annual testing notices and monitors compliance through documentation, contact, and follow-up.
  • Assists City departments with compliance for City-installed assemblies.
  • Tests backflow assemblies at all City-owned facilities as scheduled.
  • Maintains and organizes compliance documentation to meet state retention requirements.
  • Scans, files, and revises storage format of program documents as needed.
  • Supports the installation and testing of new or existing assemblies in relation to permits and compliance.
  • Investigates property, billing, or site use discrepancies related to cross-connection compliance.
  • Provides accurate information to customers and departments regarding program requirements and regulations.
  • Troubleshoots backflow assembly issues based on facility type and regulatory standards.
  • Schedules and conducts annual testing of assemblies at Water and Sewer Department facilities.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
