Backend Software Engineer
About The Position
Hadrian is building autonomous factories that help aerospace and defense companies manufacture rockets, satellites, jets, and ships up to 10x faster and up to 2x cheaper. By combining advanced software, robotics, and full-stack manufacturing, we are reinventing how America produces its most critical parts. We recently raised $260 million dollar Series C to accelerate this mission. We are excited to be launching a new Factory in Mesa, Arizona, a 270,000 square foot facility that will create 350 new jobs immediately. We are opening a new headquarters to support thousands of future hires, launching Hadrian Maritime to serve naval production, and introducing a Factory-as-a-Service model that delivers complete systems instead of individual parts. Hadrian works with startups, Tier 1 and Tier 2 suppliers, and major defense contractors across space, shipbuilding, and aviation to scale production, reduce costs, and accelerate delivery on mission-critical programs. Candidates for this role could end up working with several of our internal products and teams: Opus is Hadrian’s FactoryOS, our core platform comprised of applications that model, manage, and automate an extremely complex network of factories. Copilot is our suite of manufacturing automation products that automates or accelerates key processes within the factory including quoting, CAM programming, and CMM programming. Factory Automation develops robotic cells for use in our factories and the software that controls them. We have a broad set of backend services and applications internally. Candidates interested in redefining manufacturing software—from distributed systems to automation infrastructure—will have ample opportunity to do so.
Requirements
- Expertise in modern backend technologies, with a deep understanding of distributed systems, service architecture, data modeling, and scalable infrastructure design.
- Strong ability and desire to write high-quality, maintainable code.
- Experience designing and implementing APIs (REST & gRPC).
- Know how to develop, deploy, and maintain backend and full-stack applications using a modern cloud or containerized stack.
- Bias toward action and take pride in your work.
- Excited to work in a fast-paced environment with high stakes and quick iteration cycles.
Nice To Haves
- Strong product intuition and user empathy. You enjoy understanding how your services impact real operators and workflows.
- Experience working across multiple languages or systems as needed: Go, Python, C#, C++, etc.
- Background with systems that require high performance, reliability, or real-time processing.
- Familiarity with CAD/CAM software, robotics, automation, manufacturing systems, or 3D environments.
- Demonstrated success implementing and scaling production systems in complex environments.

- Design and maintain reliable, scalable, and high-performance APIs and systems in a complex production environment.
- Engage in product discovery alongside experts in manufacturing and software—help define what needs to exist and what needs to be better.
